Re: keratin vs. brazilian straightening?
none really, but there are a million different brands and salons call it the way they want to.
The original Brazilian straightening makes hair stick straight and has to stay in hair for 3 days. Its smells terrible, heavy on formaldehyde (toxic).
There are more gentler products and instead of calling them Brazillian, they call them keratin straightening. But even though there are new products that don't contain formadehyde, they have other chemicals that can be just as bad or worse (just to warn you not scare you)
The chemicals need to stay in the hair some set time to work. I've known people ending up in the hospital from respiratory problems after getting a treatment.
I usually get Copola and have no issues, but its a very light and doesn't straighten hair, just removes frizz. Latest time I decided to risk it and got Rejuvenol, needs to stay for 24 hours. It really made hair straight, I had no issues but there have been reports of hair loss due to scalp damage from it.
Know the product the styist uses, and make sure the stylist knows the product too, they will tell you what will work for your hair and what wont.

I also used the Rejuvenol brazilian treatment and it makes my hair amazing. I finally ordered the product online and now do it myself every few months. It turns out so straight and frizz-free!!

Re: keratin vs. brazilian straightening?
i've had the copola keratin straightening done 3 times and it's made my hair pin straight for months each time. i also have to leave it in for 3 days before washing. i think it really depends on the persons hair. i know it works well on my sisters hair too and we both have pretty curl, frizzy hair. we usually get it redone every 6-9 months, but again everyone is different!
