Kid Camera Advice

Hi. I'm not a parent yet (EDD: March 14) but I thought I'd post over hear to get some advice from current parents. My SIL told me that my 3 year old neice would love a digital camera for her bday. She always uses my bro and SIL's (and takes pretty decent pics!). Has anyone bought their young child a camera? What did you get? How do you like it? I did some research and fisher price makes one but the reviews on amazon say it takes pretty crappy photos (worse than a camera phone).
Any recommendations?

My DS is only 4 months old, but I think buying a 3 year old a real digital camara is a waste of money IMO. Maybe someone should buy her a disposible or a disposible digital and see how she handles that. Kids can be kind of rough on their toys.

As for how the Fisher Price camara takes photos, is she really going to be saving them forever? Is it really a big deal how they come out in the long run? I think Disney makes one too, but I don't know the ages for it.

The Fisher Price one isn't that bad...the pix aren't the highest resolution, but the kids get alot of enjoyment out of seeing what they shot.

You could also check Lillian Vernon - they carry film and digital kid cameras, although I can't speak to the quality.

Stay away from the Disney Ones, unless you get the characterless one that is around $100 (but then what's the point for a kid!). I bought DS the POTC one for xmas last year and it was HORRIBLE. The resolution was crap, you couldn't take pics indoor because the flash was so dim and it was made of flimsy plastic.
