Kids ages 4 and up re: car seat
My middle kids are both 4 years old right now but one of them will turn 5 in May. They are both still in car seats. Their car seat can be changed into a booster but right now they still have a 5 point harness.
When do I make the switch? When did you make the switch or plan to? They told me that they are going ot aks Santa for a booster seat if I don't switch it by then.

Re: Kids ages 4 and up re: car seat
My daughter was 6 in January and I still have her in the convertible carseat. She's in the britax marathon which if I remember correctly goes up to 75 pounds.

Re: Kids ages 4 and up re: car seat
DD is now 6 and has been in a booster since the shoulder strap could go right over her shoulder, which was when she was around 4.

Re: Kids ages 4 and up re: car seat
My DD switched over to a booster seat when she was about 4.5. I don't remember her height and weight exactly but even though she was within the weight ranged for the Britax Marathon, she is very tall and it was starting to be a bit awkward. I didn't feel like the straps were hitting her at the right spots. She was more comfortable in the booster seat and definately big enough for it, height and weight.

Re: Kids ages 4 and up re: car seat
my petite almost 6yr old is still in a 5pt harness. The seat converts to a seatbelt high back booster, and then a regular booster but I'm keeping her in the harness as long as possible.

DS switched to a booster on his 6th b-day. DD will be 6 in May, but she'll be in the car seat much later than 6, since she's small for her age.

Re: Kids ages 4 and up re: car seat
Both my boys were switched to a booster right about 4 years old. The 5 point harness seat I had was only good to 40lbs with 5 pt harness and they were both at that at 4yrs old. After that it could be converted to a booster but I went and bought graco lap belt boosters since when I converted it - it just didn't feel as safe and the safety reviews for my seat as a lap belt booster were not the best.

Re: Kids ages 4 and up re: car seat
DS switched from the Boulevard to the Parkway (HBB with latch) at 4 1/2 years old. His seated height was almost at the limit of the Boulevard 15 3/4 with a 16 inch limit. He is 40 1/2 lbs and about 46 inches tall. He still had about 3 more inches in height and 25 lbs but his ears were above the head rest so we switched him to the HBB last month.

Re: Kids ages 4 and up re: car seat
I just had to convert our Nautilus to a high back booster because my six year old was over the weight limit. He is still under the limit in the Britax Frontier so we still use the five point harness in that seat.

Re: Kids ages 4 and up re: car seat
DD switched to a high back booster I would say around 4.5-5 yrs old. I just took the back off now since she is almost 6 and meets the requirements.

Our 35lb 6 year olds Marathon is expiring this summer and we just bought the Britax Frontier 5 point harness to replace it.

Re: Kids ages 4 and up re: car seat
I have a Recaro which has an extremely high weight limit for the 5 point harness. DD is 4 + 3 months. She does not currently have the maturity level I would want to feel comfortable having her in a booster. When I think she won't fiddle with the seat belt, try and get out of the seat etc, I will convert the seat to a booster. Until then - 5 point harness it is.

Re: Kids ages 4 and up re: car seat
I switched my 4 year old out of the convertible, 5 point harness when she reached 42 lbs. & 42 inches (a little over 4). It is still a high back convertible seat but with the seatbelt to secure her.

Re: Kids ages 4 and up re: car seat
Noah is 8... I think I switched him to a booster last year and COMPLETELY against my will. He's tiny and I still prefer the car seat but I found out that most moms switched their kids before kindergarten or by the end of the kindergarten year. Except me.

I just converted my 6 yr olds Nautilus to a booster from a 5 point. She's 51lbs and very long torsoed. It was time. Mt 3 yr old is still in a 5 pt Nautilus.

Re: Kids ages 4 and up re: car seat
In my car, my 4.5 yr old was just switched from the Britax Roundabout to the Graco Nautilus. He should & will be in that for a long while and eventually will switch over to a high back booster with shoulder seat belt. In my husbands car, we will be buying a highback booster for use with seatbelt since he only rides in it every few weeks to local stores.
My DS is very funny though. I had him ride in a highback booster in a friends car last week and I told him he had to sit straight. He was so vigilant about keeping the seatbelt where it belonged. Car accidents are my biggest fear and I passed the fear onto him.

Re: Kids ages 4 and up re: car seat
My DC will be in a 5 point harness as long as the weight limits of the seats will let me keep them in it.
