Kids and Tattoo Parlors
Am I being too conservative in my thinking that I'm appalled that one of my co-workers brought her 4 year old with her while she went to get a tattoo?? She tried to Justify it by saying that she didn't go to a tattoo parlor, her friend does it out of his house. I kept my mouth shut but REALLY?? Am I being too bold by saying What is wrong with our society today ?? Is it me??

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors
I wouldn't take mine to one out of pure safety reasons (my children would think it's so cool, especially being that so many family and friends have tats! lol) but how is that any different from someone smoking or drinking of front of their child?

you wouldn't bring your 4 year old into a bar would you ?
Again ..maybe I'm just more conservative in my thinking.

As long as I could be sure that my DC wouldn't touch everything, I don't see a problem with it.

The place I go, you are the only one allowed in the room(where the tats are done). I have brought Kryssy with me. She stayed in the waiting area, she was not 4 but young. I was also right on the other side of the counter and I could see her at all times. Plus she was either with my late husband or a friend. Never alone.

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors
I would be more likely to be "appalled" if she got her 4 year old a tattoo of her own.
Simply allowing her to watch her get a tattoo would not appall me. There are a lot of things we as adults allow our children to be around, making sure to explain to them that they are not allowed to do these things until they are older.
I probably wouldn't take my child with me to get a tattoo, but I don't see it as a big deal if someone else does.

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors
i personally would find it odd if i saw a kid in a tatoo parlor. but not appalling. as long as there arent needles laying around and they arent smoking, i cant really say why its not a "safe" atmosphere.

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors
My concerns would be about the tattoo needles and blood, and if the child could cause the tattoo artist to "slip".
Other than that, if the child wasn't in danger and was being looked after, I wouldn't have much of an issue. My memories don't go back that far, so I don't think it would cause the child harm.

I didnt mean to imply that you did... i was just stating that just because a kid never enters a bar doesnt mean they never experience that atmosphere... when i was a kid i used to make my moms wiskey and pour my dads beer in his mug, properly at that.... lol .... imo i just dont see a big deal with being in a bar or being at a tattoo parlor...

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors
When my DD was 4 months old me and DH took her with us while my DH got his tattoo for her. He was there 3 hours..we walked around outside then came back in. She basically slept the whole time except when I took her out to the car to feed and change her. I dont see anything wrong with it..as long ad your children are being good.
Oh your not allowed to go back where the artist is doing the work. You can see from behind the counter.

I don't think that it's the most appropriate environment for a young child to be in.

i wouldn't take a kid in there... not because the environment itself is inappropriate but because i wouldn't want my or any kid to break anyone's concentration.

I really don't see it being a big deal. Especially if you have one of those chilldren who would sit and not get into anything.

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors
I don't see it as a big deal, and even less if it's just a friend's house and not an actual tattoo parlor. To me, that's more like bringing your kid over and having a glass of wine with a friend than it is like bringing a kid to a bar.

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors
I don't think the mgmt at most tattoo shops would even allow a toddler in the work space.Too much could go wrong.
If she brought her kid with her to get a tattoo at a friend's house, i guess that's ok--I would just be scared the kid would run around and cause the artist to be distracted or god forbid slip!

Nor do I. And I actually was in a bar many times as a kid. Hell, we had Irish step dancing classes in the bar!

I personally don't think they belong. Some of the sketches are xxx
I know the place I had mine done does not allow any kids under a certain age even in the establishment. Not even by the front door.
