Kind of silly question regarding changing your DC's diaper
When your infant is sleeping and does poop in their diaper do you change them right away or wait a little while until they start stirring and then change them? It may sound like a silly question, but I am not sure if I should be running to change his diaper every time he goes poop, or if I should be waiting a little while so as not to disturb his sleep pattern (obviously I'm not talking about waiting hours). What do you do?

Re: Kind of silly question regarding changing your DC's diaper
I would never, ever wake a sleeping baby to change a dirty diaper. When they wake up naturally is soon enough!

If it is poop, yes I would wake him to change it to avoid diaper rash. But pee diapers I change when he naturally wakes.

Re: Kind of silly question regarding changing your DC's diaper
When she was a newborn, we did right away, but now that shes older, she doesnt poo as much. It all depends on home much poo, most of the time she gets really explosive (sorry tmi).. so we have to take care of that right away.. She really doesnt poo while sleeping, but if she did and not running out then i would just let her sleep.

I never wake him up. I let him wake up on his own.

Re: Kind of silly question regarding changing your DC's diaper
Luckily, I haven't really dealt with this, but I do know that when my sons diaper is wet, and he poops in that diaper, the poop gets REALLY messy. So maybe I would let him go a little while, but I don't think I would let him go to long.

Re: Kind of silly question regarding changing your DC's diaper
I change DD as soon as she poops, otherwise there's a risk of getting a rash (which has happened when she sat in it). I've changed her while she was sleeping and she would fuss but go right back to sleep.

same here. once they get a bad rash it's so hard to get rid of it. but if you don't want to wake your lo then put a TON of cream on them before the nap.

Re: Kind of silly question regarding changing your DC's diaper
I never had my dd wake up for a diaper change...when she was a newborn, I would change her in the middle of the night when she had a feeding but once she started to sellp through the night (at 3 months old) I have not had to change her during the night
come to think of it, she has only pooped overnight a handful of times

Re: Kind of silly question regarding changing your DC's diaper
I put a little extra cream on DS before bed in the hopes that it will help avoid diaper rash because I will not wake him to change his diaper. So far...knock on wood...no diaper rash yet.
