Re: Kindergarten Question
I was told it varies by district. If you're wondering what yours is, it's probably on the school calendar they send out or on the website.

Re: Kindergarten Question
it's really not a huge deal - the cutoff where we started school (Queens) was 12/1 so my sister, who was born on 12/16, started school a bit later, and she was one of the oldest in her class. it hasn't affected her at all, as far as i can see.

Some districts allow you to have your child tested to get in if they are close to the cutoff.

Re: Kindergarten Question
I just want to pipe in and say that sometimes it's not a bad thing if they are one of the older ones. My DS is the youngest or one of the youngest in his class. He is very bright so I cannot imagine him being a year back but he is less mature so it makes it a tough situation. Every child is different - one of his best friends is one of the oldest and they are on a par maturity wise - but between my DS's birthday and having younger siblings at home, he is def less mature than some kids. I guess it eventually doesn't matter but when they are younger, it can be challenging, esp with the amount of work they are doing.

Re: Kindergarten Question
Not sure about your main question, but just wanted to let you know I was born on 12/11, and I had to wait the year to go to school. It was actually kind of better I think. I was in all the honors/AP classes. It's quite possible that if I had been moved to the grade ahead of me, I may not have been in those classes because they would have been too hard. (But I'll never know).
It is not a bad thing at all. Just think of it as one more year without having to put your DC on the bus at such a young age.
