Kindle Fire?

Thinking about telling DH I want one for Christmas. Can anyone tell me more about it and whether you like it or not? Is there anything similar?

Re: Kindle Fire?

Let me preface this by saying I am a heavy user of the Ipad and the Kindle2- I LOVE both devices and use them both every single day. So that may have some bearing on my experience with the Kindle Fire.

Have to say I'm not overly impressed. Its definitely no Ipad as far as internet surfing, but thats fine, I really wanted it just for reading on the train. I have 2 main issues with it. The biggest issue for me is that its not e-ink like the original Kindles. I used it on the train the other morning, and by the time I got to Penn I had a blinding headache from the glare and backlight. There is an "e-ink" option you can set, but its not even close to the actual e-ink Kindle. The second issue I have is that its Wifi only. My current kindle is 3G, which allows me to shop in the Amazon store if I'm on the train or somewhere that Wifi isnt available. Its not like I can't live without it, but I got used to having it and its a nice feature to have.

At any rate, the thing kept freezing on boot-up, which seems to be an issue with them, so I had to send it back. I will give it another chance when the new one comes in.

Bottom line- if this is your first tablet, I'm sure it will be fine, it is a great little tablet with some cool features. These are just some of my issues I found after using other devices.

Re: Kindle Fire?

I got mine the other day and I love this thing. Im not planning on reading any books on it - because I have a nook....but I love being able to play angry birds, and surf the web without having to be on the laptop.

got mine the other day and love it! I have an Ipad but the fire is different...i love the size of it to take to the nail place or whereever it fits so nice in my bag. I have the original kindle and plan to read my books on that but with the fire magazines and games...also movies and tv shows. I agree not having 3g is annoying but its still wonderful..esp for $199
