Kindle or nook

Please give me the pros & cons about them. Can you share books? download from library?

With the Nook you can borrow from the library and also lend books. As of right now, with the Kindle you cannot.

Also, the Nook just debuted a brand new e-ink reader that has touch screen! Looks really nice! I have the NookColor which I love, but if you want E-ink, that's a great option!

Re: Kindle or nook

I love my Nook. We have a wifi first generation and a Color.

Both Nooks & Kindles can lend books to others, but the publishers decide which books can be lent (and they can change their mind with no notice) and they can only be lent once.

Right now any e-reader but the Kindle can borrow from the library since they all utilize the .epub format. Kindle uses their own. Kindles will be able to borrow from libraries in the near future, but I'm guessing that libraries are going to need to decide which format (or maybe both) to buy the books from so there may not be a lot of options at first.

Plus publishers are putting limits on the number of times a library can lend an ebook (something like 16 times) so I personally think that library ebook holdings are going to be really slim since budgets are getting tighter and they aren't going to be able to keep buying the books.

I am really starting to hate publishers due to all the ebook restrictions.......

Re: Kindle or nook

I love my Kindle.

I haven't seen the new nook, but it looks like it addresses some of the concerns I had with the older version. (glare from white border).

I should add that I didn't consider the Nook color, I didn't want a backlit screen.

Re: Kindle or nook

I love my kindle but honestly I never really looked into the Nook. They both sound awesome but I wanted to be able to read my kindle at the beach most of all so I didn't want anything backlit. When I got it too, a NYTimes article had just come out comparing all the e-readers and kindle blew them all away...of course that was a while ago and it sounds like Nook has made some real headway.

I guess it depends on what you're going to use it for.

So far only HarperCollins has said they would place a restriction on the borrowing of ebooks - and it is at 26. I know there are all kinds of boycotts going on of this publisher, so hopefully they will change their minds.
