Kindle or Nook?
I love my old style books but I think I'm going to give in into any of these (kindle or nook). Which one is better?
I want it just for reading. I have an iPad but I don't use the reading app. I want something smaller and I don't need/want apps on it.
Thanks!

Re: Kindle or Nook?
love my kindle! it isnt back lit (not sure if the nook is) so i can read it outside in the summer.
also like that amazon has a boat load of free books. i havent paid for a book in such a long time since i am not picky about authors.

Re: Kindle or Nook?
I have Kindle Fire. Love it so far (just got last week). My friend has the Nook and wishes she had waited for the K.F. Its faster she says. Like OP said there are tons of free ebooks and daily specials. I have not, nor plan on spending a lot on books for I love to read anything. I know you said you dont want apps but there are tons of free ones and if you have kids there are great apps for them. I like to flip from reading, to sudoku to words with friends, hang man then back to reading..lol..
have fun!

Re: Kindle or Nook?
The e-ink readers are essentially the same. If you ask 10 people their opinions, you'll get a dozen answers. DW has a Nook, and FIL bought MIL a Nook because she didn't like her Kindle.
The monochrome e-ink readers are much different than the color models, so keep that in mind when you get opinions, or are doing research. The color models are scaled-down tablets, so they are back-lit, which is harder on the eyes, and not as easy to read outside in the daylight. The e-ink ones are easier to read, but can't do as much computer-type stuff.
Since you have an iPad, and just want it for reading, make sure you stay with the black and white models, and not the color.

I worried a lot about how my Nook Tablet would affect my eyes. My eyesight has gone from perfect to very blurred in a matter of years and I blame my computer mostly. That being said, I've had my Nook Tablet since it came out in November and I read incessantly and I've never felt like my eyes were strained. And this is AFTER being on a computer for 7+ hours a day.
Also, I've never had a problem reading in daylight. On the Nook Tablet, you can change the text so the background is black and the text is white. It really helps me read any time of day and I feel it's easier on my eyes.
For those reasons, it really came down to if I knew more people with a Nook or Kindle (for sharing purposes) and I liked the Nook's expandable memory. I went with the Nook and love it!

Re: Kindle or Nook?
I would go with a regular Kindle. I have an iPad and Kindle Fire and find both of them clunky for reading. I have the Kindle 3G and it's great, fits perfectly in my purse and comfortable to read in bed.
