Kindle problems
My Kindle is driving me nuts! It doesn't start regularly anymore. The only way to start it is to reset it. Then, it freezes every 20 minutes or so, and needs to be restarted again. And...it no longer remembers what page I'm on, so I have to scroll through and remember where I left off.
Has this happened to anyone? Were you able to fix it, or is it just broken? I got my Kindle May 2011, so while it isn't brand new, I would expect it to last longer than a year.
If it is hopeless, any recommendations as to what to get to replace it? I think I want e-ink, because although I wont get to read at the beach too often, I do read waiting for the train or outside of my house, and in those spots I can't read my phone screen because of the sun, but I can read my kindle.
ETA--If I went with a nook instead of a kindle, can I still buy books from amazon and have them downloaded to the nook? I'm a big amazon shopper...

Re: Kindle problems
call Amazon and tell them the problems you're having. My kindle recently broke (it was 5 years old) and I called Amazon to see if it was me or the kindle. They offered me a credit towards a new kindle touch. I was very impressed with the customer service.

I'm jealous! they would not do that for me. They offered me a refurbished old model for $65 plus shipping. A regular kindle is only $79 brand new, free shipping. Makes no sense.

I'm really surprised. They gave me a credit for $40 off the touch. If you didn't accept it, I would call back and speak to someone else. I didn't even have to fight for it - the guy offered it to me right off the bat.

Re: Kindle problems
I have a Nook Tablet and a Nook to Android card with double boot. It allows me to boot my Nook up as an Android without voiding the warranty (you just put the card in the card slot). I downloaded the Kindle app onto that.

Re: Kindle problems
This might sound crazy but do you have your kindle in a case? The same thing was happening to my kindle and I finally got someone on the phone who said I had an old case and that was whats was causing my issue. The case I had was the amazon kindle case (no light) and the little clips that clipped into the kindle were black plastic and they said since the case clips into the electronic system of the kindle that was causing it to short out, they had redesigned the case so they sent me a new case that has gold metal clips and ever since then my kindle is working perfectly!!

Re: Kindle problems
I would call them and maybe they can troubleshoot it with you.
I dropped my old kindle in a bucket of water and it was SHOT and they still let me get a new one (probably refurbished) for $65 and gave me a $25 credit toward a new skin

I did the chat with a technician and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. They did offer a refurbished one for $65--but a new one is $79, so that just didn't seem worth it to me. I said I might switch to nook, and they really didn't care at all.

I had this exact same problem... Amazon CS told me to take it out of the case, charge it fully and problem was solved.... they even credited my account 59.99 (the cost to buy the light version of the cover)... I'd bet that is your issue!

I got the refurbished one because I have a kindle keyboard and I didn't want the regular one. Plus the $80 one has the ads on it, mine doesn't. I liked that I got the same exact one. I haven't had any issues with this one so far and I use it constantly.
