Kitchen cabinet colors? What do you like?
DH and I may be redoing our kitchen in the near future. I like country/cottagey styles so I am gravitating towards white.
However, this kitchen will likely be the kitchen that is there when we sell the house. So I'm also thinking about resale and what other people will like.

I like an off-white cabinet (I also like the country cottage look)... For resale - I'd go with a medium-toned or dark wood.

I chose "other" because we don't want very light wood, and we don't want very dark wood. Sort of a medium tone. (this is not my kitchen, just an idea of a medium color)

I've always loved cherry wood, so that's what we installed in our kitchen. I think that as long as the quality of the cabinets that you install is good, I wouldn't worry about what color is best for resale. Just go with what YOU like.

First question would be when do you plan to resell? If it's 2-5 years maybe I would go with a medium tone wood, but if it's more then that time frame I would do what I liked in my home. Try to get good quality with whatever color you go with.
We have cherry wood, but I also love the look of white cabinets. For our houses we were going for that transitional look, so we stayed medium to darker tone with our Great Room.

I love love love the look of white cabinets (look at CaMacho's kitchen in her album)... But, I have cherry in my house.
I don't clean my cabinets often enough to have white.

We have a nice maple, but I love white. My neighbor did her kitchen in a shabby chic white and I fell in love !!!

I like white or cream colored cabinets the best. I think the color of the cabinets should also depend on how large your kitchen is and how much natural light you get.
If your kitchen is on the smaller side, I feel lighter cabinets will make it look bigger and brighter.

We just went from white laminate to cherrywood. Best decision ever. I think it looks richer and it's much easier to keep clean. With 2 kids and a dog the white was just awful to clean....

I would do white over light wood.
Medium tone wood is usually good for resale and the most versatile.
Dark wood is nice but hit and miss for resale.
