Kofinas/Pillitteri patients

Did Kofinas automatically want a CSection or does he give you the option of a vaginal birth? Because I had asked pillitteri today and he said that if there are no indicators of needing a csection then he prefers to go for vaginal but then he also said that its up to Kofinas because he typically prefers for his patients to have sections. Just wondering what everyone else's experiences are so far.

So funny you asked this because I am a Kofinas patient (32 weeks) and this has been on my mind too. I brought it up to him this past week.

I had a vaginal birth with my daughter 6 years ago, and wish to try for another....he was in total agreement. I may have to be induced at some point due to the fact that I will be switching from Lovenox to Heparin at 37 weeks. He and my OB will continue to closely monitor to see. Definitely have the conversation with him.

Not a patient but I have a question... Is he considering induction only because you are switching from Lovenox to Heparin or are there other factors?

It was just mentioned as one possibility. I am of advanced maternal age (awesome, LOL) and between that and my thrombo, they are monitoring me 2x per week starting this week (Dr K and my OB). He indicated that the earliest I could be induced was 39 weeks if need be, but if all looks good, I can try to make it to 40. At that point, I would be induced if it didn't happen.

I am totally Type A, so the not knowing is rough, but I trust both doctors and know I am in good hands.

Kofinas/Pillitteri patients

Ok got it. I'm on Lovenox as well switching to Heparin at 36 weeks if I make that far( have a history of preterm labor and clotting issues). I'm only 25 weeks but I'm now going to my OB every 2 weeks as well (MFM on staff).

Good Luck to you.

Re: Kofinas/Pillitteri patients

I was a miller/kofinas patient and CSection was never mentioned. I ended up having to get induced because at my appointment with Dr. Kofinas they found some blow flow restrictions and had to go straight to Winthrop. I delivered vaginally at 38 wks 5 days with no complications. I had switched over to heparin at 37 wks but still was able to get epidural. They said there has to be a certain time period between epi/heparin.

This is so reassuring...Miller is my OB too. I am really hoping to avoid the C section if possible.

i was a miller/kofinas patient when i had my son almost 2 years ago. they induced me at 39w5d or something like that. i had gestational diabetes and was on heparin and a million other drugs. my induction failed after almost something like 36 hours of trying to bring on labor my DS just wasn't dropping down so Miller gave me the option of continuing to try or going in for a section. i chose the section because i was so exhausted and nothing was happening with the induction.

ps…..sorry for lurking on the board ;) lol

Re: Kofinas/Pillitteri patients

Thanks ladies! I was under the impression that Kofinas would automatically want a section.

Typically not if you never gave birth or went vaginally the first time. But they did tell me he's not pro VBAC for his patients since they are all high risk. One of the nurses said he had an article on his site called "once a c section, always a c section". (I havent reas it yet). I'm also "advanced maternal age" and have clotting issues.

I was a Kofinas/cafaro patient and I had a vbac. If I remember correctly he had no issues with it.

It depends on your individual issues.

Re: Kofinas/Pillitteri patients

I was with Kofinas with my son last year. C-section never came up in our discussion but I was induced at 39 weeks due to thrombo and had a text book vaginal delivery.

I'm pregnant again and back with Kofinas to monitor my thrombo and even though I'm only 10 wks, he's already mentioned that he'd like to have me induced again with this pregnancy and I'm totally fine with that.

I love the fact that he takes blood clotting disorders very seriously.

Re: Kofinas/Pillitteri patients

Dr.Kofinas patient here and I had a scheduled csection because my DS was breech.

Eta: if not for that, I would have been able to try for a vaginal delivery.
