Please FM! I will help anyway I can. Teenagers are my specialty
I can vouch for Christine.
She has a lot of experience with this age group as a guidance counselor and is a licensed therapist as well.
Liza, I'm sorry

Re: Ladies, things with my stepdaughter have hit rock bottom...
Thanks ladies...
The thing is, her guidance counselor is a b itch, and she called me again yesterday telling me she has no way of graduating, and she is falling further behind, there have been no changes, etc... and we knew that she was in class more, so I was erally confused. I was also p*ssed that I always get called when things are already bad and not when they are GETTING bad...
And to top it all off, she told me the nurses had some concerns, which made me panic. I asked to be connected to the nurse, but she must have heard I was on the ophone and came to the office, and told me that she had bruises on her arms that were suposedly from her boyfriend...
Um - her WHAT??????
She said that she told her they were "love bites" - he was biting on her arms and leaving bruises and also had hickies. I wasn't bothered by the hickies, but the bites and bruises really upset me. I called DH, of course he was upset....
So, he spoke to her with her mom last night. She refused to give the name of the guy until DH told her she either tells them, or he hauls her to the precinct to file a report and the police will find out. That scared her straight and she said it was some guy who graduated last year and they hang out 9th period together. She said his parents know about her, which upset DH that we don';t know about him....
We are actually going to sit down and meet with his parents to discuss this. Every teeanger's dream come true, I'm sure!
My SD doesn't willingly give information. When she got home, DH told me to go upstairs and talk to her. Her mother is incapable of talking about sex (she was a virgin with DH) so I went upstairs, asked to see the bruises, and asked her how she got them. She told me from biting.
I said to her that whatever she wishes to do is fine, but what concerned me was the risk of hepatitis. I explained how hepatitis could be spread - and that saliva, blood contact is one way (I told her we won't even go into HIV and AIDS, which is discussed ad nauseum) - I said it would be unrealistic to tell her to not be having sex right now, so if she is having sex with this guy, I just want to make sure that everything she does is safe. She told me imemdiately she is NOT having sex with him, and I believed her. I believe her because she is the type to lie by omission - she never blatantly lies, and she would have remained quiet if she was....
I stressed to her that being a teenager is all about learning and making mistakes. I told her the MOST imporatnt thing she needs to do right now is learn by those mistakes, and not die by them. She has lost friends and acquaintances recently in the accident on the Seaford Oyster Bay, and I used that as an example. That hit home.
I told her that everyone makes stupid mistakes that could have killed them. I even told her I made stupid mistakes that could have killed me, and it was luck that I survived. I just begged her to THINK before she does things so she doesn't do something stupid. I told her she doesn't want to get some awful disease because of something she is doing now. She might not even remember this guy's name someday....
I told her that she is so brilliant and smart (she REALLY is) and everyone who meets her is amazed by her, and she has a long and wonderful futire ahead of her, and I don't doubt it for a minute. I told her by her actions, it shows me, though, that SHE doubts it, and that really upsets me.
I'm hoping I got through to her. I think I did, because she didn't have that blank, BLANK stare when I was talking, but she was really THERE and she had tears in her eyes.
I'm not huggy, lovey, kissy with her. I never was, and I didn't hug her or tell her that I love her. But I do. I need to get through that. I think its my own issues with my stepmom. Lucky me - i get to have issues with 2 mother figures in my life, and now I get to relive them all over again. God has some amazing sense of humor, huh?
Oh - and guess what? We are gonna have a NICE little sit-down with that M*F*ER of a guidance counselor, who "counseled" her by saying she might as well just drop out of HS because she is doing so poorly. In front of the principal and VP, who chimed in and said they believe in her and do not suggest she do that. We are gonna meet with all those players, and if thats true, I'm about to rip out a huge chunk of shriveled, flabby, old guidance counselor A S S

You are a great stepmom, your SD is lucky to have you.
I can't believe that that guidance counselor would tell her to drop out. She really needs to be reprimanded.

Liza~ I am speechless at the load you are carrying, and the grace with which you are handling it. You are a FANTASTIC mom to that "child". I pray that someday soon she'll grow up and realize that you are the best thing to ever happen to her.
