Ladies with thyroid issues
What do you consider a "normal" TSH level? I have never had a thyroid issue, but the last time I was pg, when I went for my 5wk, it was a little elevated (6.5). At 6 wks it was under 4 (about 3.5) and then I took synthroid (before having the 6 wk results) and it was under 2 (.86). But I was in the middle of miscarrying (baby stopped developing at 6w4d). So, my endo didn't know if I have an issue or if my body was thrown off b/c of the miscarriage. I then went off the synthroid and it was back to about 3.4.
NOW, I'm pg again and went the day after I got my BFP to check it. It was 3.37 at 4w1d. Then, I went for a routine check-up and b/w last week at 5w3d and I just learned it's now at 4.083.
What do you think? Hanauer still has to review my b/w but the nurse said that level is fine. BUT, I've heard it's best to be between 2-3 when pg.
Any thoughts? I don't think I'd even be questioning this if it wasn't for that one slightly elevated level.

Re: Ladies with thyroid issues
well i have an underactive thyroid and i am currently taking synthroid ED. my last test had me slightly elevated with the new dosage but my endo says she would rather have me a little elevated than under because if i am under than the baby is not getting anything. I HTH.

Re: Ladies with thyroid issues
First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! I didn't know you got a BFP, that's wonderful news!
I JUST went to my endo last week and he said everything looked good except my TSH level which was 3. He said he would rather see it closer to 2. I WAS a little tired these last couple of weeks too, so he raised my Synthroid from 125 to 140 (he gave me 50s to take 2x a week).
I have to go for bloodwork again in a month.
You should see and endo and see what they say.

Thanks Gina! I am def. switching endos - my last guy had no clue what he was doing. Do you go to someone in Nassau that you can recommend? Thanks!

Re: Ladies with thyroid issues
When I was pg my endo said he wanted to keep me close to 2.
In Nassau I used to use Dr Breidbart in Great Neck before I moved out east and it was too much of a drive. I really liked him!

Re: Ladies with thyroid issues
I did a lot of research when TTC on this and I foudn most endos like the level to be 2.5 or under for TTC and PG. Most PCP's do not and Ob's as well understand this....The old level was 5 or under and they go by that a lot.
When I am above or even at 5 ( TSH) I get tired, flaky skin, hair loss....
I would strictly see an Endo when PG for this....
I have hypothyroid like you....

Re: Ladies with thyroid issues
Definitely see an Endo! My OB totally disregarded my high TSH (8.5) and the baby could have been in danger. Now I see an endo and I range from 1.5 - 3.5. It's really important to keep it under control in the first trimester, into the second, b/c the baby isn't making his or her own thyroid yet.
