Lamaze/ Bradley/ Hypnobirthing

So I am entirely too preoccupied on giving birth considering I am barely 11 weeks. I know I do not want an e-pidural and I would like to try a natural birth.

What are the differences between these methods?

What class/classes is everyone planning taking?

When should someone typically take these type of classes?

Thanks ladies! Any info would be great!

Re: Lamaze/ Bradley/ Hypnobirthing

hey! i'm only 11 weeks too but am also starting to think about child birthing classes. right now hypno-birthing seems to be the most interesting to me. from what i read the premises of hypnobirthing to relax you since according to hypnobirthing the labor is extraggerated by the fear and anxiety most women have about giving birth. then once yuo are calm and in a "happy place" the pain will be less since ur less anxious.
the only problem is i can't find a class for it near me.

I also hope to have a natural delivery and although I don't know much about hypnobirthing, I am currently taking a Bradley class taught by Erin Maher in Farmingdale.

It has taught me a lot about the different medical interventions that may/will be used in the hospital so that you go into it as an informed patient. Focus is on deep breathing rather than the shallow 'hee-hee' breathing Lamaze teaches you, and you learn about the stages of labor in depth so you understand what is going on with your body which may help you get through delivery easier.

Overall, I would recommend taking the course, DH and I have learned so much over the past few weeks. Here's the link to the website with the listing of instructors that I used:

I've heard great things abnout hypnobirthing and bradley. I would not recommend lamaze if you're planning a natural birth.

You could just wing it like me. I've had two homebirths with no classes at all Chat Icon

Just curious what you meant? I thought the point of lamaze was to aid with natural birth.

Lamaze just teaches you breathing techniques in an attempt to distract you from the pain. Totally useless IMO.

From what we've learned in my Bradley classes, the shallow-breathing techiques taught in Lamaze does not work anyway, and that deep abdominal breathing is much more effective during labor....of course, never having given birth, I couldn't tell you who is right or wrong here! Chat Icon
