Laminate wood floors?
DH and I need to replace the stinky dirty carpets in our soon-to-be-new-home. We're thinking of going with laminate wood for the LR/DR (carpet for the bedrooms) since it's cheap, easy to install and easy to maintain. I'm not a huge fan of it, but since this is not our forever home we don't want to spend a ton of $$ on real wood.
Can I see pics and can you tell me what brand/color you have and where you got it?

Re: Laminate wood floors?
We used Dupont from Home Depot. It looks very similar to the previous poster's first pic. It was very reasonably priced and DH installed it in a day. With 2 dogs and 2 kids it has held up beautifully. Sorry, I dont have a pic at the moment.

Re: Laminate wood floors?
i am not a fan of laminate floors but if you are certain that we will be selling in a few years then it is definitly a cost effective solution.

Re: Laminate wood floors?
We have laminate in the kitchen and living room. We went for the cheapest stuff at home depot since we did it as soon as we moved in and really didn't have the money.
Levitt houses are built on slabs so no wood floors for us
We paid .98 a square foot.

Re: Laminate wood floors?
we have laminates on our second floor. I hate them.
we have real hardwoods that are prefinished from home depot. They were only $2.99 PSF and not much harder to install than the laminates, and they are a million times nicer. Just something to think about!

Thanks for posting pics... looks like real wood! Thanks steph for looking up the make/color for me.
We've been looking online at lumber liquidators and the prices are great.

Re: Laminate wood floors?
This is the laminate flooring we put in our apartment in our house. It was $1.99 sqft. We bought it at a local place where we live. I believe the color was a cherry wood color. GL!

I would buy from lumber liquidators. I've heard good things about their products.

That is a great way to pick something you are going to order online. GL with your selection. I'm sure you are getting excited about your closing. It's right around the corner.

Re: Laminate wood floors?
I have Brazilian Cherry (i think) it's darker with alot of variation in the grains in my kitchen. We have a galley kitchen and we would have had to do a subfloor with more $ and more work. So we opted for the laminate - love it. I can clean it up easily and it looks great.
My DH's grandmother has it all over her house. Not a fan of too much of it.
Also, I had the contractor flip the boards to create the effect of the variation.

These are from Costco. I think it was .99 sq ft with a coupon. I'm very happy with them. IMAGE

All of these pictures are gorgeous!! We also live in a Levitt house on a slab and currently have yucky carpet. How easy are these to install? Do you need to put anything down first?

Re: Laminate wood floors?
My mom had laminate, and they started to peel, and get very worn after a year or so. SO she ripped it up and put engineered wood, You are able to sand and stain the engineered wood floors a few times in its lifetime if you want. They come prefinished

I just looked at the website... nice stuff but kinda expensive. I'm going to see how the samples look from lumber liquidators.

Re: Laminate wood floors?
We got ours at Lumber Liquidators. The brand is called DreamHome/Nirvana, I think. I don't remember what the color is called. We only have it in our den because its concrete slab underneath. I actually am really happy with it. It looks great and has been standing up well to three cats running around all over it. We had a piece of it outside from when we were cutting it - it was out there through rainstorms and all the elements and it looked brand new even after all that.
This is the picture I have - its from when we were installing it. The quality is not that great.

You put a moisture barrier underneath and put the laminate on top.

Re: Laminate wood floors?
DH and I wanted an inexpensive way to re do our office since we're eventually moving. We went to costco and bought laminate and we also bought bamboo floor for another room. I don't remember how much it was but I remember DH saying it was less expensive then he'd seen. We haven't installed it yet though so I don't know how it holds up.
