Re: Larger sizes vs Maternity
I did a little of both. I did buy some maternity clothes but they don't fit well. I bought a bunch of stuff from Old Navy but the XS's are really baggy on me in shirts and pants i'm in between sizes. I didn't want to buy XS because I thought they wouldn't fit for to long but the S's that I bought look horrible after I have them on for 1/2 hour. The look 10x to big after you sit in them for a while. I also bought some jeans and sweaters in larger sizes from Mandees that are i'm doing pretty well with so far.

Re: Larger sizes vs Maternity
As far as tops, fashion is on our side this season. Tops are being cut fuller. The only issue I see is that regular size shirts are not as long and don't cover me as well as maternity shirts. But, maybe that's just me. I would give it a try with a shirt or two so that you don't spend too much money.

Re: Larger sizes vs Maternity
I needed maternity pants very early on, wearing a larger size didn't work well for me. With tops though, I think it's easier to wear a larger size. This summer I was 4-6 months, and I bought some empire style tops that covered my belly. I was also able to get away with some of my looser non-maternity summer clothing. By 7 months though, I really needed maternity everything.

Re: Larger sizes vs Maternity
I would rather wear maternity clothes. I find them a lot more comfortable and I won't have to buy a new set of clothes towards the end of my pregnancy.

Re: Larger sizes vs Maternity
I buy all regular clothes just at a bigger size, I'm still in all pre-pregnancy clothes now, I wear a lot of lounge wear.

Re: Larger sizes vs Maternity
how far along are you? i am 18 weeks and can still wear all of my larger tops and baby doll tops. it's the bottoms that i need maternity in. i am petite, so the larger non-maternity pants just look stupid on me.
i bought some blouses from old navy that are peasant style (not maternity, but they look great).

Re: Larger sizes vs Maternity
I was very happy that I bought some clothes one size bigger. After the birth I was happy to be in those rather than maternity clothes.

ITA. I find that regular clothes in a larger size don't fit my frame or fall in the right places. I haven't found maternity clothes too expensive either, but I've stuck mainly to Old Navy, Gap (onsale), Target, and a few things from Motherhood Maternity

If you buy maternity I suggest that you buy them online. seems like the store always have a sale going on.

Re: Larger sizes vs Maternity
In the beginning I just bought regular clothes in a bigger size, then I bought maternity stuff. The maternity stuff grows with you better, whereas if you buy regular clothes you will end up buying alot more. So more expensive maternity clothes will probably end up being cheaper because it will last you longer. Also, I found that as I got further along, the regular tops just arent long enough. ETA: Also, I found that when I tried to get regular clothes in a bigger size, they fit my belly but were huge everywhere else, whereas the maternity pants fit me everywhere else and grew with my belly--they are made more for an expanding belly since your whole body doesnt grow as much as your belly.

Re: Larger sizes vs Maternity
Maternity clothes make me look pregnant as opposed to larger sizes which just hang on me and make me look like I'm wearing a tent

Re: Larger sizes vs Maternity
I bought a little of both at Old Navy. They had some t-shirts in Maternity on sale (like $4) so I figured they'd be good to work out in and be needed post partum in May/June. I also bought a nice sweater in Maternity. I did buy some sweater tops in regular sizes... I bought small - usually I do XS. Medium was big, but in the wrong places (my arms aren't growing), but what is nice as someone said, fashion IS on our side... my big thing was finding sweater tops to wear under my suit jackets for work that would be long enough to cover my bella band. Most of my suits don't fit me anymore, but thankfully the bella band saved the day. Larger jeans were a nightmare... I'm only 5'1" so the larger size was way too long and I refuse to pay for hemming. So I'm using my bella band on my jeans too until I'm ready for maternity jeans. I'm waiting until I'm bigger, I tried the discount maternity store at the Source mall, and tried on some stuff using the pillow, but it looked funny on me... I hope I don't carry that bad
