Lasagna and ham

I am making lasagna for Christmas. It is just our immediate families, six of us. We just want to make something easy since we did a formal Thanksgiving dinner and will be out late on Christmas eve. I am making tons of hot appetizers. I was thinking a ham is not that hard to make since you just put it in the oven. Would that not be a good mix? Is it terrible to make the ham and not add sides to the ham and just serve the two dishes? I am trying to avoid a whole dinner with main dish and sides, etc.

I would have some sort of vegetable, and then I think you will be good. Like maybe broccoli rabe or string beans sauteed with garlic and oil

I would cut out the ham totally and make a meat sauce....get some meatballs, sausages, pork and serve that with the lasagna and a nice green salad. All can be done beforehand and it's nice and easy!

I agree - If you are trying to keep it simple, I'd either just do lasagna with a tossed salad and maybe some garlic bread OR I'd do a ham with a couple of side dishes.

With the ham - I agree it's easy because you are just reheating a fully cooked ham in the oven. And I often find side dishes very easy to do when entertaining because they can almost always be made in advance. For example, you could do a potato dish (like a mashed potato casserole, twice baked potatoes, scallopped potatoes, etc.) a day or two in advance and then just stick it in the oven with the ham. I posted a Carrot Souffle recipe recently that is great with ham and can be made a couple of days ahead of time.

Assuming you make your sauce from scratch when you make lasagna, I actually think the ham route with a couple of sides (one could be a tossed salad, just like the lasagna) might be less prep work. And if you are doing a lot of hot hors d'ourves, then maybe the ham will seem "lighter" than lasagna, which is so filling.
