Last night doctors appt (very long)
I went to the doctors for my regular appt last night. I was going for a sonogram first so we can see how big the baby is. (I told the doctor I was concerned at the last appt - cause I did not want a huge baby - I was only 6lbs when I was born - but DH was 10lbs 8 ozs So I wanted to make sure that I was not having a 10 pounder).
So, I went for the sonogram, it was soooooo great to see the baby, since I haven't seen the baby since I was 19 weeks along (I am 36 1/2 weeks now). The baby was sleeping, then it woke up and was sticking its tongue out and started having a little temper tantrum since it was woken up by the technician (We can see the baby had a temper like mommy). Oh yea - the baby's heart rate was 171 during the sono
Anywho, I then have my appt with my doctor right after the sonogram. So she wants to check the heartbeat - it was back down to 137 or something like that - she wasn't concerned since the baby was so active during the sono. So then she says the results to the sonogram look good. I have enough amnio fluid, and the heart is beating fine, baby is moving fine, blah, blah, blah. Then she comes out and says there is one thing that she is concerned about. I almost passed out before she even said what it was.
Well, she is concerned about the size of the baby. She said specifically the baby's belly. She said it is a little smaller than normal for the amount of weeks I am along. The baby is weighing in at 5 lbs 1 oz (which I didn't think was that bad - since I was only 6lbs when I was born). But she is concerned. She said the baby's weight is in the 5th percentile. So next week I have to go for 2 types of sonograms, the baby has to be monitored for a little while and then after all that - I have my first internal.
I just hope that all the tests are fine next week and that they are going to tell me that I just have a normal smaller baby.
Thanks for listening

I think everything will be fine. Babies always catch up in the end. I hope everything turns out okay and I will pray for you and your little one.

Re: Last night doctors appt (very long)
Oh Marcie, what an appointment
It sounds to me that overall the baby is doing great! And to me, it seems that your doctor is being overly cautious (not a bad thing) and wants to keep an eye on the baby and its progress. I really believe that your baby is going to be just fine, and is just measuring small right now. But as we've learned recently with MrsJ (and them predicting she was going to have this HUGE baby and then being wrong) sometimes these doctors are totally OFF when it comes to saying the baby is going to be big or small!!
But I can imagine that the appointment was a little stressful for you nonetheless
Thinking about you and the little one.. I know all will be ok!!

Re: Last night doctors appt (very long)
I'm sorry the doctor has you worried. I'm sure everything will be fine. I thought babies, on average, gain about 1 lb per week in the last month or so. If that is true, the baby will be a little over 8lbs and that is perfect!

Re: Last night doctors appt (very long)
Thanks Girls. The part that has me worried, and I forgot to add it to the top is that she wants me not to do anything but sit around on my rear end until the end of the pregnancy. Not bedrest - but do not do anything. Now not for nothing - that is what I have been doing the entire pregnancy - pretty much. So that is the part that has me nervous.

Sounds like if the baby stays in a few more weeks it will probably grow some more. They said the same stuff to me, that my dd would be abnormally small, she was 6lbs 15oz- perfect size to me! Try not to worry yourself to much, the sizes are estimations anyway.

I agree with the other girls... sometimes those predictions can be off. I'm sure your little one is doing just great! I know it's easier said than done... but don't be nervous!

Marcie, I'm sure everything is just fine. Don't forget those sonos can be TOTALLY off. They're not 100% accurate. I will be praying for you

Re: Last night doctors appt (very long)
i am also concerned about size given gestational diabetes. i went for an ultrasound 1 day shy of starting my 33rd week and i was told weighed in at 5 pounds give or take 1. now i thought this was enormous, but was then told that the estimate fell in the 65th percentile.
i go for another ultrasound next week at 36 1/2 weeks for a comparison. i asked my dr. a while ago why these measurements are sometimes way off. she explained that one needs an accurate head and torso circumference, and depending on how the baby is positioned this can be difficult to achieve. a pound either way is a huge difference as far as i'm concerned !

I am sure everything's ok. Sonograms are not always so accurate and neither are the people evaluating them, so just hang in there. You'll be in my thoughts, though!

Re: Last night doctors appt (very long)
When I was 36 weeks my doctor told me that he thought the baby was small. If I remember correctly he said he was about 5lbs as well. He wasn't overly concerned he just said I would probably have a small baby. I was just over 6lbs when I was born so I thought he would take after me. Well he was born at 7lbs 4oz. Sonos aren't always 100% accurate so I am sure your little bean is perfect.
