last Psychologist question, honest...would this be considered a conflict of interest?
Let's say that "K" is seeing a psychologist for possible bipolar/O.D.D. among other things.
Yet the psychologist hired "K" to babysit her 3 year old child on a regular basis, while she is still seeing "K" as a patient.
Isn't that a bit odd?

Yes, and I'm pretty sure she could get in trouble for that.

not for nothing--but why the hell would the psychiatrist want to hire someone who is bipolar/ODD to care for their child????
very poor judgement---and i think it would be a bit of a conflict of interest

To me, being involved with a patient in any way, shape, or form outside of your therapy sessions is a conflict of interest.

I work with bi-polar clients and even when medicated and monitored properly, their behaviors can be extremely unpredicatble. There is no way I would knowingly hire someone with bi-polar disorder to be responsible for the welfare of my children.

Re: last Psychologist question, honest...would this be considered a conflict of interest?
Yeah, I wouldn't call it a conflict of interest...it's more like poor judgment. I don't think there are any laws being broken, but I suppose a psychologist should try to maintain an impartial, independent relationship with their patients, no?

Re: last Psychologist question, honest...would this be considered a conflict of interest?
Dont get me wrong. There are many people with bi-polar disorder who live very full and functional lives, hold down jobs and you would never know. But when you have a lil bit of knowledge and background of the disorder it may cause you to consider a different form of child care.

This is a dual relationship and it is unethical. The psychologist can be reported to NYS licensing board for this.

Agreed and I just wanted to add he or she can also be reported to the APA (American Psychological Association) for this blatant ethical violation.

Re: last Psychologist question, honest...would this be considered a conflict of interest?
It has nothing to do with the paitent's situations. It is a conflict of interest because the paitent is seeing the professional for professional services and their are rules for professionals to not get personal/friendships with their patients.
I am trying to get to the main point. Am I making any sense in what I am trying to explain. I hope I helped all of you out a little.

It is unethical to have a dual relationship, and seriously compromises the therapeutic relationship and the quality of the therapy that is provided.
