Nothing for state and local is a big hit. McConnell and most Senate Repubs were desperate to keep that out of the bill.

McConnell is just beyond vile for refusing to allow a vote on the HEROES Act which would have provided real relief.

I cannot say on a public forum what I really think of him. He singlehandedly has caused so much malaise in this country.

This bill is a combo of everyone who worked on it, not just McConnell.

Just wait until Biden gets in and see how many terrorists we pay off.

You must not realize that McConnell alone wields control over most of what the Senate votes on.

That's how it works.

The HEROES act was passed in the spring and he won't allow a vote. It's unconscionable.

Democrats wanted so much more than Repubs and had to come down SO far to appease them.

It's appalling.

Unless I am reading wrong, this passed on October 1st.

You are definitely reading it wrong.

It passed the House in the spring.

The Senate has not voted on it.

McConnell is holding that along with many other bills hostage.

ETA - I wish you were correct because I am sure Trump would have signed it. Trump has pretty much only vetoed bills that have hurt his quid pro quo schemes with foreign dictators.

Trump, in a video posted to Twitter, called on Congress to increase the $600 stimulus payments contained in the bill to $2,000 per person, or $4,000 for married couples.

Are we really giving 4 billion dollars to other countries while local governments are hurting and we are in massive amount of debt. What is wrong with these congressman???!!!

Personally I am also not ok with giving more money to Americans unless they actually lost income!!

How are we paying for all of this???

Yep, did they not think their taxes would increase? If the Democrats found life on another planet, they would send them money too.

I was going to say- I don't need the $600. I'd prefer to give it to people who do.
We were fortunate to not lose any income. I feel weird taking the money.
I'll donate the money to pay it forward, but I feel like there has to be a better way

If you want to swing insults like "ignorant", brace yourself because there's tons of ignorance in these pro Repub posts.

I hesitate to use that word (ignorant) because it's incendiary but start it and I'll finish it.

1. Welcome to the World of Democrats is an absurd thing to say because right now they control half of one out of three branches. You're in a Republican world right now and, as usual when that happens, people are suffering.

2. The Republican executive + legislative branch of 2016-2018 passed tax legislation that RAISED taxes on most people and was particularly devastating to the metro area with the SALT cap. It personally took thousands out of my pocket but, more importantly, the pockets of thousands of people who can afford it less than me. But this is what Republicans do - funnel wealth upwards. It's been that way for many decades. You have to go back to Eisenhower to see different.

3. No one has responded to the fact that the House, while imperfect, did its job months ago and passed solid COVID relief that McConnell ignored. Ignored as in didn't even put up for debate. It's inexcusable. Also, no one responds to the fact that it is REPUBLICANS who have repeatedly resisted an additional direct payment.

4. Trump's claim to want higher stimulus payments is in bad faith because he was NEVER part of the negotiations like any other President would have done - Repub or Dem. He was too busy plotting to overthrow the election. For him to make that declaration now is meant only to be destructive and probably to fukk with McConnell who recently agreed that Biden is President elect and is therefore now on the shit list. If he does veto it, McConnell is now forced to expose the fact that the Repubs do not want the additional direct payments. The emperor has had no clothes for a while but now he's dancing bottomless on the bar and it's on Facebook live.

5. The Pakistan thing is part of a separate bill that has been tied to COVID relief. The government does things like this all the time (tying stuff together.) I agree that the whole process is absurd and I urge anyone who is annoyed about this to pressure their reps to change the process.

I didn’t get much in the last round so I doubt I’ll get much now. But I spent it all at local businesses. I encourage anyone who gets any sort of money and doesn’t “need” it to spend it locally instead of at the big box stores.

We are suffering because of a pandemic! Prior to this, majority of people were doing just fine. I’m more worried about how we are going to pay back all this money that we are handing out.

You should really be mad at local / state governments because of the whole SALT issue....why are we one of the few places that have such high taxes that cause this to be an issue?? It’s not the federal government’s fault our taxes are so high. Look at other states.....this is a local/state issue NOT a federal. Be mad at them for taxing us to death. And buckle up....it’s going to get worse now that cuomo is going to hoard all the money and not distribute it to local governments so he looks like he can manage a “budget” (mark my word on that one).

The second sentence is patently false and represents a lack of understanding of the world outside your own bubble.

The pandemic gravely worsening the situation proves the point. The truth is that the large majority of Americans are a paycheck or two away from disaster because American economic policy and law does not foster economic security and hasn't since the decade or so following WW2.

What is ignorant is ignoring that the national debt increased significantly more under Trump than under Obama.

I understand the world outside my “bubble”. The economy was doing great and many people were employed and thriving.

Now....people’s livelihoods are destroyed and many are suffering.

I don’t think there is any way either side could have made this situation better. What do you suggest? I read about other countries who give thousands to their people, where do people think this money is coming from????? This situation stinks. There is no right way to fix it. It’s a double edged sword. Don’t help people and you’re wrong, help people and you’re wrong. I don’t know how any country will be recovering from this.

But this crap about sending money to other countries is ridiculous. It should all be on hold. Help America first before we help others.

Are we really giving 4 billion dollars to other countries while local governments are hurting and we are in massive amount of debt. What is wrong with these congressman???!!!

Personally I am also not ok with giving more money to Americans unless they actually lost income!!

How are we paying for all of this???

This makes me so mad, and it is just the beginning...welcome to the world of Democrats!!!

Exactly but the posters here will just ignore or defend them. Ignorance.

Not true in the summer he spoke about this and in October he spoke about a bill only about Americans and to cut the pork. It’s not all about the republicans. Funny as Pelosi hasn’t met with Trump in about a year and has no interest in meeting about this. Now all of a sudden she agrees with him.
Stop being fooled.

I was going to say- I don't need the $600. I'd prefer to give it to people who do.
We were fortunate to not lose any income. I feel weird taking the money.
I'll donate the money to pay it forward, but I feel like there has to be a better way

I didn’t get much in the last round so I doubt I’ll get much now. But I spent it all at local businesses. I encourage anyone who gets any sort of money and doesn’t “need” it to spend it locally instead of at the big box stores.

Didn’t spend a dime of it at big box stores. My child benefited with drivers education and we are poor enough to get the full amount.
