I thought the film was mind blowingly amazing!!!!!
BUT...Russell Crowe was not the best choice for the role. I think my DH could have done a better job!
Hathaway and Jackman had me in tears from their first notes.
Sasha Baron Cohen & Helena Bonem-Carter were perfect for those roles. Loved them!
Amanda Seyfried proved she could sing in "Momma Mia", but in my opinion hit those high notes effortlessly.
I kind of want to go see it again on a Wednesday afternoon with no one in the theater so I can sing along!
I want to see it again as well, prob going to go by myself this week..don't think my DH would go again right away (he liked it it but don't think he's ready for it again, lol). I can't wait to see it again!!

Re: Les Miserables -
I saw this on Monday. It was absolutely amazing. I was wondering how the play would translate into a movie. Rent, I felt did not translate well, but Les Mis was amazing. I saw this twice on broadway and watching it this time was so much more emotional for me. It's amazing how a child can change the way a film feels.
I disagree though with most about Russel Crowe. I think he did great. I thought he was perfect for this.
That little boy, OMG. He was phenomenal. I knew what was going to happened and I completely lost it. Seeing him reminded me of my son and it was a hard scene to get through, especially as one tries to muffle the ugly cry.
I want to see this again but need to see it by myself so I can cry at will.

hahaha LOVE this.
I loved the movie. Saw the play years ago and loved it.
But I cried like a baby during the whole movie.

Also, I think being that I was so young when I first saw it, I took away more from it and understood the story much deeper...the message re: religion was so much clearer now. How Javert felt he was righteous in following gods will by bringing people to justice but he lacked compassion...and Jean Valjean didn't always follow the "law" but followed his heart and led by example and love & compassion. It was a powerful message about values, I think.
this.
I don't think I understood it really when I saw it on broadway.
I really understood how powerful a story it really is after seeing the movie.

Same here. I've seen it twice on Broadway and I was just to young to understand and really feel it. I loved it then though and I loved it even more now. I wish I could go see it on Broadway again, maybe this will be the impetus they need to bring it back!
As for the cast... phenomenal! The only one I really didn't like was Amanda Seyfried as Cosette. I REALLY can't stand her on a good day and I thought she was too high pitched when she sang. DH said she sounded like the birds in Snow White. Then again he also said Marius sounded like Kermit the Frog which I took offense to! Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway were absolutely amazing though. I was actually surprised by Russell Crowe, too. I wasn't sure about him when I heard they cast him for Javert. I think the little boy who played Gavroche was one of my FAVES. DH loved him, too. I actually got up to use the bathroom at the scene when they killed him (I REALLY had to go! Ha!) and when I came back DH was just about bouncing out of his seat to tell me what happened. As if I didn't know what was coming. That last scene though... ugh... all you could hear was sniffling. It was amazing. I want to go back with my mom- she's the one who had taken me to see the play twice.
ETA: Has anyone read the book? I have it sitting at home (for some time now) and I've just been too intimidated to pick it up and read it.

Re: Les Miserables -
Just saw it last night. I absolutely loved it! I didn't know the storyline at all, but we sang the music in HS so I knew about half the songs and it was very emotional to hear them and see the true meaning behind them.
The actress who played Eponine was my surprise favorite, but I also think that Sacha Baron Cohen and HBC were out-freaking-standing!
I came home with a headache from crying so much
