Re: lets talk fluid/water intake 6-9 months
At 6-9 months, I was only giving breastmilk & starting to supplement with formula.
Per my ped, they should be getting all of the nutrients from bm/formula & solids are just practice until a year.

We did not give water at that age. It's empty calories. We are just starting to give him water and really only because it won't make his hands disgusting or ruin his clothes as I show him how to drink from a cup.

At that age, DS was only getting breastmilk. Ped tried giving him prune juice due to severe constipation from 7-8 months straight, be he refused everytime.

Water doesn't have any calories
But it will make DC feel full and they do not need that at this age. As Barb said, formula/BM are to provide most nutrients until DC is 1, baby food, etc is just practice.

Re: lets talk fluid/water intake 6-9 months
my ds is 7 months and he just is on formula (my pediatrician is not a fan of juices) although I tried to do 1/2 juice 1/2 water (for the floride vitamins) and my ds threw it up ~ so I have not tried it again as of yet.

Re: lets talk fluid/water intake 6-9 months
Well i don't give my ds any juice and won't for some time.
But i do give him a sippy cup with an ounce or two of water in it. I give it to him after he has solids. He likes water and he doesn't drink that much (doesn't even finish the 1-2 ounces in it). Plus it helps with his constipation from the solids.
ETA: ds is 8 1/2 months old.

Re: lets talk fluid/water intake 6-9 months
My Doctor told me no juice until a year. She did tell me at my DD's 9 month visit to introduce the sippy cup. She said to alternate offering it to her with water and with formula. That was three weeks ago. DD chews on the sippy cup but has yet to actually drink anything from it. So for now, she still only getting formula as a liquid.

Re: lets talk fluid/water intake 6-9 months
my ped told me that they should be getting 25-32 oz. of formula a day, with 2-4 oz of water offered in a sippy cup.

Re: lets talk fluid/water intake 6-9 months
Until she was 6 months she only got formula. After that she had formula and we starting introducing solids.
We didn't start water or milk until she was a year and we skipped juice all together until recently and even then it is only at daycare, not at home.

Re: lets talk fluid/water intake 6-9 months
my DD gets sips of water while she eats her solids. over the course of the day it is only about 1-2 ounces total, so it is really just little sips. she take them from an open cup and i see it as a way to start teaching her that drinking skill for when she goes off the bottle (plus she was nearly sipping out of my cup when i was drinking and holding her) and helping her wash down her meal.

Re: lets talk fluid/water intake 6-9 months
We started DS on water about 6 months but it wasnt until about 8 or 9 months that he really started drinking water. I would say around that age he was doing 1-2 oz MAX a day but it was also summer so I kept it available becuase it was hot out.

Re: lets talk fluid/water intake 6-9 months
Until 12 months DD only drank formula. I tried water a few times, but it was like I was giving her poison. Now at almost 17 months she drinks about 20 oz of milk and 6 oz of water a day.
