Lets talk maternity leave benefits... whatcha getting?
Looks like they don't kick in my STD (short term disability) until all sick days and vacation days are used.
Sick days roll over too! yeah
10 sick days a year - 15 vacation days - 3 personal days
I have two rollover vacation days that I have to use by March 31st or lose them. And my rollover sick days are being used so far for appts. So I think I get them all.
Looks like I have a month and a week at full pay then a few months more on STD at I tihnk 60-70% pay. This would be wonderful since I won't be traveling into the city!
What's everyone else looking at right now?

Re: Lets talk maternity leave benefits... whatcha getting?
I have about 3 and a half weeks vaca right now.
A few days will be put towards our babymoon to Aruba in April.
I am hoping I can use the remaining (+3 sick days) as the initial maternity leave. Then I can just file for STD (short term disability) through FMLA.
I am hoping to cut a deal before all that with work. I have the ability to work from home. So I am hoping I will take 12 weeks (paid by work) and then they will allow me to work from home for a while.
We'll see. My company is a small one growing fast into a big one. And they have never really dealt with this before. So I am hoping I can use that to my advantage.

Re: Lets talk maternity leave benefits... whatcha getting?
My company pays squat. I will have maybe 1 week of PTO that I could use. I just signed myself up for Extended STD insurance, which will get me 60% of my salary for 6 weeks vag, 8 weeks c section. Thats it. Thank God I am the HR department here, and I negotiated for me to get this extended STD ins., because otherwise it would have been all unpaid.

Was is tough negotiating with yourself? Did you give yourself a hard time?
I have a pretty good deal. 12 weeks paid, 12 weeks upaid. I had to negotitate for the 12 weeks unpaid even though it was in the associate handbook.

Re: Lets talk maternity leave benefits... whatcha getting?
I get 6 weeks 100% paid for a regular birth and 8 weeks 100% paid if c-section. I get one week sick built into it and I can use any of my vacation/personal time that I want. I have 4 weeks vacation and 3 personal. So depending on if I wind up with the c-section I will be out anywhere from 10-12 weeks totally paid.

I get cr@p.
I get the whopping $175 from disability for 6 weeks and my job pays nothing.
All I will have is one day of PTO and other than that, I had to remind them that according to FMLA they HAVE to give me 12 weeks, otherwise these b@stards would have expected me back in 8 weeks.

.
Me too.
BUT I will be fighting this. It seems that if I read a certain disability law correctly, they will HAVE to pay me.
They have never had anyone go on maternity leave here before. But in the last year ALONE, they have had 2 people out with medical disabilities that were paid in full for their time out. ( I only know this because we are friendly outside of work).
If I am reading this law correctly, they must treat pregancy related disability the same as they treat medical disability!
DH will be checking this with his connections through work.

Re: Lets talk maternity leave benefits... whatcha getting?
I get nothing at all... I'm a teacher sub per diam which means I just tell them that i'm not available for however long I want to take but is all unpaid and in the afternoons I do homestaff which yet again I tell them how long, get coverage and don't get paid... hence why even though I would love to take lots more i'm only able to afford 4 weeks off and even that is going to seriosly take a pretty penny from our savings... oh well maybe by the next one i'll get more time off

I actually did a lot of research on this. The HR department at my company was not up on any of this because I am the first to go out on maternity leave in over three years. I think what you are reffering to is an amendment to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Under this amendment discrimination on the basis of pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions is classified as unlawful sex discrimination. Women affected by pregnancy or related conditions must be treated the same as other applicants or employees. Unfortunately, this means nothing for monetary compensation. They do not have to give you anything except STD and that is not available in all states. NY is one of the few states that mandate STD. STD in NY is 6 weeks.

I would get this in writing if I were you-unless you have complications the standard STD policy after pregnancy is 6 wks vag, 8 wks c-section then you are able to use your company time off so if your company doesnt have what you "think: in writing get it now so you are safe.
Now before u deliver its a different ballgame-heck I used all 24 weeks of my STD unfortunately. My company was great.

Are you sure that STD doesn't kick in until after you use all sick days and vacation? I thought STD had to kick in after birth. Whether or not they pay you is something else. I'm not a HR person but I didn't think companies could force you to use vacation before allowing you to take STD. The only thing that stinks about that for you is that then you don't have any vacation or sick days for the rest of the year and with a newborn you are going to need them. I would question it.

I am very lucky. I get 12 weeks paid. I work for JPMorgan Chase.
I also can extend it with any vacation time I have left. I get 4 weeks vaca total but will be dipping into it throughout the year.

Re: Lets talk maternity leave benefits... whatcha getting?
I posted something earlier today about a bill that was passed in June and effective this coming July 1, 2008. If i'm reading it correctly, it extends NYS disability for maternity leave to 12 weeks, not just 6. I'll bump it.

Re: Lets talk maternity leave benefits... whatcha getting?
I don't really get "maternity leave." I get the 6 weeks disability at 1/2 pay that is required under NYS law for a vaginal birth (8 weeks for a c-section).
The 1/2 pay starts after I have used up my sick time. Then if I want to get paid in full I have to use my accrued vacation and personal time.
I can stay out as long as 7 months and still have my position waiting for me but again, I will only get paid for as long as I have accrued time.
I am saving every single vacation and personal day, and will have accrued almost 12 weeks by the time I am due.

Re: Lets talk maternity leave benefits... whatcha getting?
My first 5 with baby are sick time, but since I'm being induced I'm taking a few days off before baby comes. I get 10 vaca days a year, I'll use 3-5 depending on the day of the week my inducement gets scheduled for. If I make it to 4/16 I get FMLA eligible, but if before that date, I'm screwed... I will not be FMLA eligible since I will be at my company just one year on 4/16.
I think I get 80% pay for 6 weeks after the first 5 sick days, if I go C-section then it's 8 weeks so I'm pushing my doc for a C for that reason. Then the last few weeks are pay-free... but then I get to pay my company for my health benefits and all other usual deductions I take. It's gonna be interesting! Hoping to use the rest of my vaca days in september and october to spend time with baby since there really aren't any holidays other than Labor day.
Wish I knew last year I'd be preggo this year... would have upgraded my disability then, now it would be a pre-existing condition which is BS.

Re: Lets talk maternity leave benefits... whatcha getting?
I'm really lucky. I get 12 weeks fully paid leave, then I can tack on anything I have accrued on top of that. So with my vacation, rollover from last year, sick and personal, I will be taking 4 months!!
WooHoo!!

I get 8 weeks paid metrnity leave. If I want more time beyond that, I can dip into the 25 vacation days that I get for the year and 5 sick days.

Re: Lets talk maternity leave benefits... whatcha getting?
NADA!
I get 6 weeks STD for regular birth or 8 weeks for a c-section and that's $170/week.
I can take an additional 6 weeks or 4 weeks FMLA at no pay.
I might as well go out on unemployment and get $450 a week!

Re: Lets talk maternity leave benefits... whatcha getting?
i'm not exactly sure what i get but i know its 12 weeks i think 60% of salary which i make 4.60 an hour (i'm a waitress) so i'm pretty much screwed. i get to keep my job basically that's it. after a month i'm gonna work twice a week and that's it. i don't want to miss too much of the early stages of my baby but we need to be making money too. my husband is an NYPD cop. i'm not sure what his paternity leave is. i hope its somewhat long. i want us to enjoy this together.
