Work Benefits - Flexible Spending

Now that we are expecting a new addition to our benefits, is anyone using the flex spending?

I have never used it before, so just not sure how it works, what can be used towards it, or how much to take out.

Anyone doing this?

I wanted to, DH said no.

I figured at first I'd start out with $1,000 over the course of a year.

You can use it towards any over the counter meds, all co pays/deductibles, and more. There is a NYS website that explains all the things you can use it towards.

Re: Work Benefits - Flexible Spending

My company offeres a flexible spending account for healthcare ( prescriptsions, eyeglasses etc...) and then another for daycare. Its a pretty good idea especially if you anticipate that you will use it. The enrollment cutoff was Jan 1st, but we are waiting until the baby is born to enroll. Well have a better idea what we are doing and how much to contribute then. Any change in family status entitles you to enroll. So you can wait until the baby is born,

Re: Work Benefits - Flexible Spending

We have the healthcare FSA and love it. Ours came with a credit card and a list of items it can be used for. One thing I like is that they take the money out over many paychecks, but the full yearly amount is available right away. I was able to pay for a very large dental bill the first week of the year, but the money comes out of our paychecks in small chunks.
There is one for childcare, too, if that is something you are planning to have.
