Lets talk naps- for 6,7 8 month olds
I'm just curious- How long is your LO awake at this age before needing to go down for a nap? How many naps per day do they average? How long per nap?
I find that once DD is up for about 2-2.5 hours, she gets unholy cranky, rubs her eyes a lot, nothing makes her happy, and she needs to go down for a nap.
Her morning nap can last 2 + hours and her afternoon nap usually less.
And we won't even discuss her naps at daycare- they are HORRENDOUS. She doesn't nap well there at all!
But at home that is pretty much her schedule.
I was just curious what everyone elses DC's were like at this age in terms of hours they were awake before needing to go down and how long they napped for...

Re: Lets talk naps- for 6,7 8 month olds
DD is 8 months old. Shewakes up at 5AM.
Sleeps from 6:15-7:15AM Then ususally at daycare from 9-10 Then usually at 1-2PM Then usually in the car from 4-4:45ish Then bed for the night at 7
On the weekends and when she is home with us for any reason during the week...ie a snow day like today, she pretty much follows the same schedule.
HTH!

DS is 7 months old.
He takes one nap during the day from 11-2. I kinda trained him to do this out of convenience because that's when his older sister (19 months) naps. If he took 2 naps a day then I would never leave the house. haha Sometimes he'll take a cat nap around 5pm for about half an hour.

DS is 7 months old.
He is up for about 2.5 hours in the morning before he starts up and I know he needs a nap. That nap last anywhere from 2-3 hours.
He has another nap at 3/3:30 and thats usually an hour or hour and 1/2 at best.

Re: Lets talk naps- for 6,7 8 month olds
ds just turned 8 months and just started taking 2 naps instead of 3.
he gets up at 7, then takes a nap twen 1030-11AM for 30 min
second nap around 130 -2 PM for 40 min
down for the night by 8 PM, gets up once for bottle during the night.
his naps are way too short, he is fussy a lot bc he used to nap in his swing ( for like 2 hours) but we had to get him in his crib

My 7 mo old DD sort of does this too. She wakes up around 8 - 8:30 so she doesn't go down for her morning nap until close til 11 most days....she has been sleeping for a solid 2 hours lately with this nap. Thens he wakes and it's lunchtime...then I like to go out with her so she may take a catnap in the car. The other day she seemed So tired so I put her down at 4pm but she slept another 2 hours...I was nervous that was too much sleep to close to her bedtime but she was fine. She was up for a little over an hour and then down for the night for her deep 12 hours of sleep.
A lot of my BTDT friends all tell me her morning nap at this age should only be an hour...they think I'm waiting too long to put her down for that nap. They told me her afternoon nap should be around 1pm (she's just waking from morning nap then) and that should be the longer nap like 2 - 3 hours. They tell me the morning nap eventually goes away and I'll want that long 2-3 hour afternoon nap. Personally I don't care when she does it - I'm just glad she gives me a good 2 hours that I can get stuff done.

DD is almost 7 months. She wakes up around 7, and goes down for a nap around 9:30. She sleeps anywhere from 2-3 hours. Then, she naps again around 2:30-3 for an hour to an hour and a half. She goes to bed at 7/7:30pm.

Re: Lets talk naps- for 6,7 8 month olds
I sleep trained at 3m, he used to have an evening cat nap dropped it at 4m and has since been
7:30am wake 10:00 nap 2 hours 2:00 nap 2 hours 8:00pm sleep
At sometime around 9m, I guess it was due to milestones crawling/standing/walking, his naps where very messed up, but he'd still do 2 hours twice a day, just not at the normal times, at 10m it magically normalized back to original schedule.
I have several rules of thumb that I swear by. Outside at least 20 minutes day, unless its below 30 degrees. Especially before nap. Lots of independent supervised play on the floor where he can move every muscle and get a good workout. If he's not physically tired he wont sleep even if he's mentally tired. Catch them at first sign of drowsy, and tell them "its going to be nap time soon" and when they are really showing it "okay, I'm taking you for a nap" ... they might not understand you at first, but they do pick up on the signal, they prepare themselves for nap and will nap well, and they will soon learn to recognize those words.

Re: Lets talk naps- for 6,7 8 month olds
OK so the 2-3 hours of being awake before needing a nap seems about right then. I sometmes feel like she is barely awake for long before getting cranky and tired but I guess it's fairly normal at this age...

Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child, is my sleep bible 2 hours awake should followed with 2 hours sleep, They can drop that late afternoon nap between 4m-8m to sleep longer stretches at night.

Re: Lets talk naps- for 6,7 8 month olds
My DD just turned 7 months last week. She has been STTN since 2.5 months sleeping 7pm to 6/7am every night.
Her naps are another story and change every day. At home, she does either 2 or 3 naps a day. Sometimes she'll do two naps at 2 hours each and other days she will do three naps at 1 hour each. Its never the same every day.
Daycare is another story. She naps when she can - sometime three naps, sometimes even four.
The only thing that is fairly consistent with napping is that she can only make it 2.5 - 3 hours in between so I try to use that as my guideline.

Re: Lets talk naps- for 6,7 8 month olds
DS is 5mo and his awake time is usually 2-2.5hrs. He still takes 3 naps a day and I'm trying to get rid of the 3rd, but it's hard. I"m following his cues.

Re: Lets talk naps- for 6,7 8 month olds
DS is 6 months & can stay awake at most 2 hours & if we stretch it, we are asking for trouble. Right now his routine is
7am - wakeup 9 - naps for 30 minutes 11-1:30 naps 3:30 naps for 30 minutes 6:45 naps for 15-20 8:30 bedtime
We have tried to put him to bed sooner but he wakes up at 5am thinking it is time to start the day

Re: Lets talk naps- for 6,7 8 month olds
DS is 7 months and is awake for the same - maybe 2 or 2.5 hours and then naps.
He is not consistent with time though. He usually takes one around 9:30 and another one around 1pm.
They last anywhere from 20 minutes () to an hour and 15 minutes each.

Re: Lets talk naps- for 6,7 8 month olds
My DD is not consistent with her naps at all. The most she has ever napped was 1.5 hrs.and I was shocked!!! She usually naps anywhere from 15 mins to 45 mins. Too short!!!!!!!!
She is almost 7 months old. It is very frustrating and she does not STTN either. She is a horrible sleeper.
I wonder if and when it will get better.

DD used to be like this until about 5 months old. And she is STILL like this at daycare. She needs perfect conditions to sleep- quiet, dark room, sound machine, her crib, etc She is a light sleeper and wakes up easily so at daycare forget it...she rarely naps more than 20 min at a stretch there.

YES! She sleeps MUCH better with it. Drowns out any household noises and she seems to enjoy the whitenoise. When I turn it on, it's kind of like the signal that now it's time to sleep.

Re: Lets talk naps- for 6,7 8 month olds
Chase naps like crap. He wakes at 6:30, then needs to go down about an hour and a half later for a nap. If I put him down on the weekends, I'll get about an hour then, if DH puts him down during the week, he only sleeps 30 minutes. I think he waits too long. Then he can last till about 1pm and that naps a crap shoot. Sometimes it's a half hour, sometimes an hour, sometimes two hours. Ava was the SAME way. but he goes to sleep every night at 6:30 and we don't hear from him again till 12 hours later. So I'm not complaining.
