moms of 3-4 month olds or BTDT moms re: naps
Hi...just looking for some advice on nap scheduling. My DD is almost 16 weeks and is a decent sleeper but everyday is different in terms of scheduling. Some days she will take 3 naps, other days 5 naps. Some days she wakes up at 6AM, other days 7:30 AM (she STTN though). I try not to keep her up more than 2 hours after she wakes, so if she wakes at different times each morning, the nap times are all different each day. She will also nap anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hours. Some days she will also wake from a nap, eat and then fall back asleep. All these variants make for various nap and eating times. Right now, she is on her 3rd nap, and will likely wake up around 3 or 4pm....her bedtime is 7ish and i never know if i should give her one more nap (she will be cranky) or just let her stay up till bedtime.
I don't know if this is normal for her age or if I should be starting to schedule her a bit. It's hard to plan things and hard to go out even just to run errands. Any input would be helpful on how to get her to be more regular....
1. How many naps does your DC take and are they at around the same time each day?
2. How long is your DC awake between naps?
3. What time is your last nap and what time is your DC's bedtime?

Re: moms of 3-4 month olds or BTDT moms re: naps
DD is 19 weeks but this has been her schedule since about 12 weeks...
Wakes between 7-8 Nap 1 - usually between 9-9:30 - 11 Nap 2 - usually 12:30-1 - 2:30-3:30 Nap 3 - usually around 5-5:30 - 6:30-7 Bedtime - 8-8:30ish (depending on when Nap 3 ended)
We put her down 1.5-2hrs after she wakes and she usually sleeps around 2 hours. Times vary somewhat but typically stay within an hour each day. Also, if she naps for <1hr for one of them, I try to get her back to sleep (give her the paci) so she gets the full 2 hrs and most of the time it works.

Re: moms of 3-4 month olds or BTDT moms re: naps
My DD is almost 16 weeks too and it sounds like we're in exactly the same boat. The good thing is that she'll nap in the car seat so going out isn't a problem during the day.
1. How many naps does your DC take and are they at around the same time each day? - Anywhere between 3 and 5.
2. How long is your DC awake between naps? She generally goes down 1 1/2 to 2 hours after eating.
3. What time is your last nap and what time is your DC's bedtime? She doesn't nap well in the evening. If we're lucky we can get her down after she eats at 6, but normally she's up until she goes to bed at 8:45 or so.

I have been trying to keep DS on a schedule since he was about 10 weeks old (because I went back to work when he was 13 weeks). he is just about 16 weeks old. Here is his day (roughly):
7:00 AM (sometimes it's closer to 6 AM)- wake up & nurse 7:30-9:00 (or if he falls asleep sooner)- play 9:00 AM- nap 10:30 AM (or whenever he wakes up)- wake up and have a bottle 11:00 AM- play 12:00 PM- nap (more or less- sometimes it's a little earlier or later) 1:30 PM or whenever he wakes up- bottle and play 3:30 PM- nap This is usually a long nap for him 5:00 or whenever he wakes- nurse He will sometimes fall asleep around 7 PM. If this happens, he is out for the night but does wake up about 9 PM to nurse. He goes right back down to sleep and generally sleeps through the night.

Lucky! My DD hates the car seat...

If your DS wakes up at 6am, do you still put him down at 9am for a nap? Do you keep 9 am as a nap no matter what time he wakes? Is he cranky at all if he wakes earlier?

Re: moms of 3-4 month olds or BTDT moms re: naps
DS is 7 months but I can answer what he was doing...
1. How many naps does your DC take and are they at around the same time each day? At 3 months he was still inconsistent. Around 4/4.5 months he started getting into routine of 3 naps 9am/12pm/3pm.
2. How long is your DC awake between naps? about 1.5 - 2 hours
3. What time is your last nap and what time is your DC's bedtime? last nap was around 3pm and then bedtime was (and still is) 7:30pm

Thanks! How long was your 3 pm nap? What if DD sleep at 3 but wakes around 3:30 and sleeps at 7:30. Would you give a nap in between?

3 pm nap would be the shorter of the three...about 45 minutes - sometimes an hour.
For 1/2 hour nap at that time - no nap in between. When were home we would tag team to keep him entertained and usually put him down to sleep closer to 7pm. Daycare...he didn't sleep anyway so it was no problem

Re: moms of 3-4 month olds or BTDT moms re: naps
DD was very non-scheduled until she went into daycare at 6 months. So she would just nap whenever.
DS seems to have a schedule.
He wakes up anywhere from 6:30-8 am.
He will usually take a 30 minute nap around 9-10ish.
Then I put him down for his long nap (conveniently scheduled with DD ) around 12-1ish.
Then he takes another little nap around 5ish.
Then is down for the night (still wakes up once to eat) around 9-10ish.
He will be 4 months next week.
We're out a lot. So he will also take little cat naps in the car seat too.

Re: moms of 3-4 month olds or BTDT moms re: naps
My 4 1/2 month DS is a TERRIBLE sleeper, so I am hoping to get some advice from this post too! Here is his schedule:
Between 7 and 8 - wakes up
between 9 and 10 - nap
around 12 - nap
around 3 - nap
start bedtime routine around 5-5:30 (cereal, bath, lotion, pj's, nurse, book, rock with paci)
between 6 - 7 - bed
Does NOT STTN, we are having trouble! Also, his naps are only 30 - 45 minutes...if we are lucky we get 60-90, but it is RARE!

Re: moms of 3-4 month olds or BTDT moms re: naps
My DD is 16 weeks and has been keeping this "loose" schedule for the past 3 weeks.
6:30-7am: Wakes 8am - 10/11am: Nap 1-3pm: Nap 4:30-5:15: Nap 6-7pm: Bedtime
Her nap schedule can vary by 30-60 minutes on any given day but her bedtime and awake time stays pretty consistent.
I try to soothe my DD to sleep after 1.5-2 hours of awake time during the day....or as soon as I start to see she is sleepy (yawning, rubbing eyes/ears, cranky).

Re: moms of 3-4 month olds or BTDT moms re: naps
DD is 14 weeks. She usually wakes between 8 and 9. She stays up for about 1.5 hours, and then naps for 30-45 minutes. For the rest of the day, she is up for 1.5-2 hours, and then sleeps for 30-90 minutes. So not really consistent with times at all, but at least there is kind of a "pattern" to the day. She usually goes down for the night around 9:30.
