let's talk the death penalty. (sounds lovely, right)
Where do you stand on this, if on any definite side?
Also, if you are pro-life as far as abortions go, are you against the death penalty? Why or why not?
--------
For me, I am pro-choice and not religious at all, but I feel uneasy about the state determining whether someone lives or dies, but I am not sure why I feel that way. I do know I always fear about the people who are on death row and may be innocent.
I figured this discussion would help me see some other opinions. Thanks

Re: let's talk the death penalty. (sounds lovely, right)
I voted unsure.
I have mixed feelings. I don't know if I feel it is appropriate for the state to determine whether or not someone lives, but I also don't know if I feel jail is a harsh enough sentence. I think I have to look at each case individually to determine how I feel about it.
It's a tricky subject. By nature as a Libra I need to carefully see all sides, understand the information and think before I make decisions, and I don't think I can adamantly state I am for or against it.

I voted for. Whenever I feel unsure about it, I think of cases like the one in Connecticut and any doubt is erased.

Re: let's talk the death penalty. (sounds lovely, right)
I am for it. Jails are overcrowded enough and the people who have done something bad enough to face the death penalty are NEVER going to be let back out on the street, so why spend my hard earned tax dollars for this guy to sit in his prison cell and watch Keeping Up With the Kardashians (torture or not, it's entertainment) until he kicks the bucket?
ETA: As for abortion, pro-choice, though I would personally never have an abortion, I don't think anyone has the right to make that decision for anyone else.

Re: let's talk the death penalty. (sounds lovely, right)
I just cannot imagine some horrible crimes not being punished by death.
That whatever horrible dead and tortures can be done on poor victims and children and the criminal knows that he/she cannot be put to death for it.
A man killing his wife and unborn child because he has a new GF.
A mother who kills her children because they would be on the way for her new love.
Children molesters who torture children.
No, I can't imagine NOT being for the death penalty.

I think I am for it. In fact they just carried out a death penalty sentence on a lady here in VA last night. It was the 1st time in 100 years or something like that.

Re: let's talk the death penalty. (sounds lovely, right)
I am pro-choice (not pro-abortion) and pro-birth control. I am in favor of the death penalty in theory, but my hesitation is because the system is far from perfect and a lot of innocent people fall through the cracks. As far as executing murderers etc -- if they are actually guilty, I'm OK with that.

Re: let's talk the death penalty. (sounds lovely, right)
Pro choice.
Death penalty- can't say I'm totally against it, but it makes me uncomfortable. As others have said- one issue is the idea of the state making the decision to take a life. I also believe that putting someone in solitary for life, or sentencing them to hard labor, is more of a punishment. Keep 'em alive and make them be as miserable as possible.
I also have concerns about doubt- for example, this woman in VA this morning got death but the 2 who actually killed the victims got life? That doesn't seem fair, though I don't know the full story.

I am against it.. If God forbid my say..mom gets murdered tomorrow and man or woman "jane doe" is found to be the guilty person..they get the chair ..is mom brought back from the dead? no. Let them suffer in jail. Not the Martha Stewart let's make a sweater jail, but hard core.

I am totally for it and the atrocity that happened in Connecticut only stregthens that feeling.
And I am pro-choice. What goes on in someone else's uterus is none of my business and I wouldn't want anyone to tell me what to do with mine.

Pro-choice & would vote for the death penalty if the offense warranted it. I do think I may have a more liberal view of it though. Molestation of a child Rape of a child Kidnapping of a child
would be included in that.

This is me too. There are too many variables in our justice system and even genetic evidence is coming out as tampered with or improperly handled and worse.

Re: let's talk the death penalty. (sounds lovely, right)
For me and only when I think of it all in the detached sense:
Pro life and against the death penalty.
I just don't think it is my place to end a life, I leave that to another.
However, come after me and my family and I am sure that would be tested and I would probably kill you will my own hands. When I read of horrible things people do to others, it rattles me. But I don't know if I could ever make a decision/choice to end a life. I just feel unworthy to condemn anyone to death.
