I agree that this has taken a turn away from finding the dog a home. It is unfortunate that some are on the defense and refuse to accept helpful information from individuals that have experience in these areas.
Truth be told that if an owner is surrendering a dog and makes a statement "the dog should not be with children because of size, weight etc." that statement will actully hurt the chances of the dog being accepted into a shelter or adopted. The shelter or rescue organization will think the dog has behavioral issues. There were several shelters suggested that would take the dog, I know for fact they will not, for many reasons, none of which is because "I am a know it all". It is sad that this dog is falling through the cracks. Hopefully when the day comes and the adopter/owner will no longer keep the dog, the person who is seeking to find it a home will come forward. There were suggestions about rotti rescue..let me share a story for those that seem to think they know about breed rescue. Several years ago a young 6 month old rotti female was surrendered to rotti rescue, which was on LI. The dog had not an aggessive bone in her body. She had been kept in a closet from date of birth until her mother gave birth again and the owner could not sell her. She was like a stone, she did not move, bite, nothing, it was almost like she was not alive..it was tragic. Rotti rescue took her and said they would work with her...agreement was to return her if they could not...after one week they euthanized her because they felt she was unadoptable..all my previous posts were based on experience and facts, for those that have limited experience to behave in the manner they have is shameful. And yes the person that adopted the dog and now decides he needs to get rid of the dog is irresponsible.that is truth. Just because he took it from a shelter does not mean two wrongs make a right. I sent out a post stating that the person could FM and I would provide that person with information and organizations that might be of assistance..instead I get an FM from an angry, abusive immature person.
maybe if you changed your approach (you ARE harsh and abbrasive), you would get a netter reception
just an idea

Yeah, that would be me because you have done nothing to help yet you continually stalk and harrass this poor chicks posts while all she is doing is trying to help find the dog a home. The comments you have donned through this conversation and the previous one speaks volumes for the kind of person you are. Trust me when I say I would never consider adopting an animal from the shelter you volunteer at if the workers there all maintained the sort of arrogant and obnoxious tone that you do!

Re: Lets try this again...Buddy the rottie NEEDS A NEW HOME
If only Buddy liked other pups, we would love another rottie......
I think this has been suggested but perhaps the rottie rescue in deer park could at least do a courtesy posting for you so that you could get a bigger audience of potential homes for him. or help give you other ideas.
Best of luck in finding him a new home. I know you have the best of intentions.......

I, too, have and do work in animal rescue. I understand you are really trying to help but your story is nothing but helpful.
Unfortunately, dogs do get euthanized because they are unadoptable. Some believe that is more humane then keeping them in cages for the rest of their lives in a rescue or shelter. I happen to believe that is more humane then the conditions some of these dogs are left in even with the best intentions of volunteers.
I don't know your background, but if the rescue's professionals that I work with feel, in their professional opinion, that the dog is unadoptable...I accept that.
Also, most rescues do their own temperment testing due to owners not always being forcoming with information.

Re: Lets try this again...Buddy the rottie NEEDS A NEW HOME
please everyone----DO NOT respond to LIG---do not quote---do not say ANYTHING more to LIG on this thread---lets just keep this going and hope someone might be able to find a home for this rottie.
i feel like any responses to what LIG is saying is just gonna fuel the flames and cause this to get locked and then it will wind up floating down to page 2 or 3.

Re: Lets try this again...Buddy the rottie NEEDS A NEW HOME
The tone is not harsh, it is truthful and I am not seeking anything from any of you..I am not the one seeking a home for the dog. You have all misguided the individual that is seeking to fnd the dog a home. Poor Buddy.

Re: Lets try this again...Buddy the rottie NEEDS A NEW HOME
Please let me clarify for all that are trying to help--Buddy is not aggressive. He is not good with other animals. But it is common in Rotties. I'm sure if we had Buddy from when he was born that might be different, but we got him when he was 2. He has been around kids of all ages (starting at age 3) and he was fine. I would just get nervous if he leaned on a young child. He's never bitten anyone. he just likes to jump. And seeing that he is 80lbs, again, I don't want a child to get hurt. I only posted it this way incase you had young kids/other animals and were interested, I wanted to tell you ahead of time.
Thank you everyone for trying to help me. I will def keep you updated on finding a new home for Buddy. I told him today how many new friends he has on LIF. He thanks everyone for trying to help

Re: Lets try this again...Buddy the rottie NEEDS A NEW HOME
I know that you are trying to help Buddy, there is no doubt about that.
If you care to FM me I will give you information that I have already publicly posted but that was attacked by others.
From the posts you the following is close to how Buddy's evaluation would be:
Buddy is good with adults/children.
Food/toy aggressive..:????? as You have not stated.
Buddy is animal aggressive (you state in your recent post he does not like other dogs). So he would have to be adopted to a single pet home.
Sometimes when you anticipate what the dog may or may not do it can actualy be a hinderance to finding a home.
A rotti is no different than other other breed, not all dogs like children, animals or men and women for that matter. Some are just one person dogs.
If I were you, I would be seeking a home with or without children, definitely only pet in househould. Then other issues come into play..is he desructive, barker, house trained etc.
Stop being so protective of Buddy in terms of his size, it may scare potential adopters into thinking Buddy may be potentially aggressive.
I recommend you make an appointment at a no kill for an evaluation for intake. There is a possiblity he may not pass but at least you will get an educated and on target evaluation and you can work from there.

Thinking good thoughts...
I was able to place a lab puppy that someone posted about here within days of the posting. It happened only a couple of weeks ago.
Good luck!!!

I hope it works out. Try posting flyers at Petco and Petsmart too or even talking to the employees. My cousin works there and he has adopted dogs through word of mouth from customers. Good Luck!

I def will. My best friend owns a pet store and since we're right down the block from The LIttle Shelter her board is filled with dogs. We'll see how this works out otherwise, I'll keep posting in the meantime...
Thanks everyone. Please keep your fingers crossed!!!

Same here.
I am not sure if it was mentioned on either post, but just in case, can you ask Buddy's vet to post about his availability? I know in my vet's office, the staff also volunteers at shelters and can be a good source in such a case.
