Letter from Oxford...
I got a letter from Oxford yesterday explaining how our benefits will be changing because of the ACA. My favorite part of the changes listed was there is still zero IVF coverage BUT you can have 1 abortion per year fully covered.
Isn't that lovely?
Have to get all this over to our insurance guy and see what plans we have available to us come January. I have a bad feeling we are going to be paying more for less coverage
ACA seems to only be beneficial to those making under a certain amount. And we are gonna get the shaft.

ACA is a hot topic in my office. The rich won't see a change in their benefits- it's the middle class that will be seeing and paying for this.
Our insurance went up about $40 biweekly as well as our copays, yet our deductible went down .
Eta- my insurance cover 1 elective and 1 life threatening abortion as well

When I spoke to my agent in oct. He said no. But he also didn't have all info. Nobody did and I think it's still kind of confusing. He knows what we are looking for in insurance and if there is any way to get it, he'll let us know.
I'm more afraid of this they pay 90% you pay 10% and that's their best plan. I have quite a lot of other medical issues so that's a lot of 10%'s to be paying.
When I looked into it in oct. I saw that based on our joint income we would be paying MORE for less coverage!! Hope that's not the case bc we are screwed!

Re: Letter from Oxford...
I have a number of medical conditions and was very scared by plans with coinsurance (80/20, 90/10 etc). Until this year I opted for plans with copays rather than coinsurance but their year I have no choice.
BUT, look at out of pocket caps. In virtually all of these plans there is some kind of cap where you will only be exposed to a particular maximum, usually something like $3000-5000 for a single person or $9000-11000 for a family plan. So, even if you rack up a ton of bills and have coinsurance, its not an endless amount. I would still rather have a plan without coinsurance at all, but I feel a little better knowing the absolute max I could pay per year is $5000 rather than $20-30k or more.

Ok. I understand that. I'll be sure to look at this when choosing our next plan. Thanks for this. I was FREAKING OUT! I have had 2 surgeries in the past 2 years and more testing and Drs. appointments then I can count. All I kept seeing was 10%'s EVERYWHERE!
When we first heard of the ACA I looked it all up online and based on our income and us being just us, a family of 2, it was like $1500 a month for the same crappy insurance we have now PLUS we would be responsible for the 10%. That's $300 more then we pay now.
I heard there were a lot of wrong charts on the sites to begin with so I am hoping that it's not so. Because if it is, we are totally screwed

Re: Letter from Oxford...
Unbelievable! This whole IF journey has made me hate insurance companies!!! I can not even believe that abortions are paid for, but there is ZERO ivf coverage
I heard recently that in Massachusetts all infertility is covered by insurance, including IVF. If I wasn;t so attached to long island I would totally consider moving!
I have everything crossed for you Phyllis that you won't even have to worry about IF coverage by the time the change occurs
How are you feeling?

I completely agree with rich ppl's insurance not feeling the brunt of this. and I am one of the rich ins ppl as I work in finance. and thank god, as we are family of one income and cant imagine dealing with more medical bills than we do have now (DH has a chronic condition on top of our IVF). This is exactly why I was against this ACA, felt like instead of re-regulating and putting some order and humanity into money grabbing ins companies (that still for the most of ppl refuse to cover for things like IVF which is a direct medical condition, or meds for mental disorders) this ACA made it more complicated on the backs of the middle class. Infuriates me.
to the OP - I hope once the ACA website get sorted out u are going to be look up a better policy and maybe even qualify for subsidies
