Level II blood test question?
What are they testing you for in the level II blood test? I think they do any ultrasound too, right? What are they looking for exactly?
TIA

Re: Level II blood test question?
I've never had a blood test as part of my level II, just a sonogram.

Hmmmmmm. I am having some blood taken at 15 weeks 5 days, then having a level II sonogram done at 17 weeks. I thought that they were related b/c the doctor ordered them at the same time, and seemed to imply they were related. I never heard of AFP, but maybe that is what it is.
Is it weird that my level II sonogram is at 17 weeks and not 20 weeks?

The blood test is probably the AFP, that seems like the right time. My doc said to wait for 20 weeks for the Level II because that's the best time to see everything.

I waited until 20 weeks as well. There are less false-positive results the longer you wait...the test results are more accurate.
At my 20 wk. sono they did the sono and brought me into a seperate room and did the blood work. Isnt that when they prick your fingers for the blood? Or was that at the 12 wk. ultrascreen?

Yeah, I am kinda confused. i am really glad that I spoke to you guys about this Level II thing b/c apparently my doctor didn't realize that I was going so early for the sonogram. He said he wants me to go at 18 - 20 weeks. He didn't tell me this the first time and apparently he didn't do the math properly in his head when i told him when i plan on going. I really like him, but he is just so darn busy that I feel like I have to keep track of half the stuff going on.
But he definitely wants me to have this blood test at 15 weeks. I don't think it is AFP, I don't know what it is. I will find out next week.
Thanks everyone.

Re: Level II blood test question?
I didn't have a blood test with the level II. I think I had the AFP around 16 weeks. They wouldn't let me come for the level II before 20 weeks.
