I think the ratio for 2 year olds is 7:1. Daycares take trips all the time and usually ask for parent volunteers so there are more eyes on them. I wouldn't have a problem with them going to the beach to play (no water) but they should have counted at least 3-4 times before leaving. Once after rounding up the kids, at least once while walking, once after walking to the bus and once again right before leaving after all of the kids were buckled in. There's really no excuse.
It's 5:1 until they are 3.
Yup.
Does anyone know if this is a center or a family day care?
Facility Name: Our Little Darlings Early Educational Center, Inc. Status: Licensed Program Type: Group Family Day Care
Thanks
11/17/2011 416.15(a)(1) Corrected Brief Description: Each group family day care home must obtain a license from the Office and must operate in compliance with the regulations of the Office and all other applicable laws and regulations. No person or entity may operate a group family day care home without a license from the Office
This means she was operating without a license at one time too!
I don't understand how they didn't notice she was missing In group family you can only have 12 kids max and that must be with 2 adults.

Re: LI Day Care abandons 2 year old at beach
My question still remains- how did they transport these children to the beach? This is an in home daycare? So did someone drive them there in personal cars? Minivans? Where did the carseats come from?
I can't imagine letting my 2 year old DD go on a trip like this. 2 years old is in essence still a baby. Strangers driving her around? Umm, no freaking way in HELL!

Can you even imagine the LIABILITY involved in something like that? Daycare children in your personal car? As an employee there is no way I'd even want to take on that kind of liability. There is just SO much wrong with this story.

My guess is had they each had a proper car seat, they would have noticed the little girl was missing. So much negligence with other people's children. This could have ended up so much worse.

Re: LI Day Care abandons 2 year old at beach
This is insane...but after being at the sprinkler park at Tanner park a few weeks ago it doesn't surprise me.
We were there and in comes what I think was some sort of in home daycare. 2 adults, 2 babies in infant seats and probably 12 kids from the age of 2 to 12. The 2 adults were off to the side talking and the kids were running wild! NO ONE was watching them for a second.
Kind of wondering if it was the same one!
CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is crazy. What day care takes 2 yr old to the beach anyway? This is pure negligence and this day care should be shut down! Thank god this story had a happy ending.

LI Day Care abandons 2 year old at beach
I dont care if I got arrested.....Heads would friggen roll if that was my daughter left at the beach. But then again, I would not allow daycare to bring her to the beach at that age.

I would imagine an investigation would have to be launched at the very least. But I can tell you, if I was that mother, I would make it my life's MISSION to be sure that place never operated again. I would go to the state myself if I had to. And I would also be sure to destroy their reputation by any means necessary- media, social networking sites, everything I could get my point across on. This is just INEXCUSABLE. My blood boils just thinking about this story!

Re: LI Day Care abandons 2 year old at beach
Idiots .........
And why is a daycare taking 2 year olds to the beach at all??
My 3 year old isn't going to the beach w/o ME or DH ......I wouldn't even send them w/ my parents or sister and BIL who I completely trust - WAY too much can happen IMO

How could the parents of these kids allow/give permission to this daycare to take them to the beach or did they take the kids to the beach without the parents knowing?

Not to change the subject too much, but I live near there. DH and I have seen people take the bus to Merrick Rd then walk down to the park to avoid the fee, with all their kids. They then let them run amuck on the beach and in the sprinkler park.
When we were there a couple of weeks ago there was a young boy running around the place biting other kids while the mother and her friend both sat around on their fat asses taking up space, talking and texting on their cell phones.
I've seen the young girls who lifeguard the area actually ask people not to come back for this reason.
This is the one thing I don't like about Tanner Park.
We try to take DS as early in the day as possible before the riff raff comes out.
I may get torn a new one for this, but I don't care.

Re: LI Day Care abandons 2 year old at beach
I did not let my 4 year old do the travel program with his daycare. I am sure that his daycare would not be this careless but I did not like the idea for 4 year olds. When I worked with teenagers in a travel camp program we did headcounts before and after we got on the bus, plus every 2 hours during the day. It was more often if younger groups traveled.

I don't want to judge...but....as a parent I would NEVER allow my child to go on a trip to a BEACH at 2 years old with daycare. NO NO NO
Poor judgement on many people's parts IMO.

I kinda agree. I only trust my parents to take my baby to beach because I know my mother watches like a ******* hawk and helicopters over kids.
Then again ..if you trusted them and they assured you there would be a lot of trusted guardians there.. And no one was to go in the water....I don't know.
I really don't know.
I'm so uptight about this stuff but I know many people are more lax about it. I never even used daycare because even that doesn't sit well with me. I just don't know anymore. Scary world out there.
I am so astonished that it seemed to take them hours to realize a kid was MIA.

I don't even understand how anyone thought this would be a good idea!!!
My OWN DC's were 3 years old before DH and I brought them to a tiny beach on the north shore. No one else was with us and we were 1:1 the entire time.
And I agree with the "counting" and carseats. One of my cousins has 8. His oldest is 20 and I swear, he still counts them. They never should have gone but since they did, they should have realized this...
1. before the parking lot 2. when everyone got into car seats (leads me to believe they didn't have any or had more than the kids they took
Someone should lose their license.
the fact that the child is ok is a miracle

I hope that any and every disciplinary action available will be taken against these negligent people ! It is an absolute miracle that the little girl wasn't kidnapped and murdered. The mother should take legal action too.

I'm floored really. Who thought it was a bright idea to take daycare children to a beach! And then not notice you left a child behind for hours!
This! Such a bad idea for a "class trip"

#1- My daughter, even at the age of 4 would not be allowed to go on a field trip at Daycare.
#2- If this ever happened to my DD I would kill, literally!

Holy Cow! So many horrible things could have happened to this little girl - thankfully she was lucky enough to find a nice little girl with a responsible mother to play with.
I mean....do a head count people!
