I won't mention the name (they are on this site), but DS's teacher left a classmate in the bathroom and left the building. It can happen at centers too.

It can happen anywhere. I am just glad this place will never be able to put children in harms way again. God knows what else could have happened in the future if these incompetents weren't stopped.

First of all I would love to hug the mom who reported the little girl being alone. She really could have saved her life.

Second, how is it that this girl wandered away so far and nobody else noticed a 2 year old walking ALONE?

Why are these daycares taking too many children, obviously, to a park/beach?

How is it that it wasnt noticed that she was gone during the trip, while getting into the bus, getting off of the bus etc. It is so alarming that nobody knew or said anything.

So glad this is being taken seriously. That POOR mother. Even knowing my child was safely found I think I would have a heart attack just thinking what could have happened.

"Second, how is it that this girl wandered away so far and nobody else noticed a 2 year old walking ALONE?"

VERY good question which will probably never be answered.

I think I probably watch too many ID shows but a couple things do not make sense to me;

#1 - IMO, the only logical explanation is that she WASN'T walking alone. Scary to think of what transpired and the possibility of who might have been with this child but it seems too odd that this 2yr could have wandered so far on her own without anyone noticing and coming to her aid.

#2 - Thank God the mother of the child she was playing with notified the lifeguards. However, why didn't she question the whereabouts of the the 2yr old's parents when she first approached her daughter? According to the reports, she only questioned after they were playing for an hour and they were leaving the beach.

If your income meets certain guidelines you can qualify for a reduced or even free daycare rate. I believe that all licensed daycares, whether in home or center based, must accept DSS subsidies.

This is incorrect. Child care subsidies are block granted from the federal government. With the recession, the criteria has been changed, and many families that were receiving subsidies have been moved off the roles, or had their assistance significantly reduced. There is currently a huge waiting list in Suffolk to receive a subsidy.

On the other side, the county keeps a list of centers that meet the criteria set forth in the regulations to receive payments. A parent cannot just choose any center, they must be on the list.

I know that at our beach, kids are always Playing with each other and sharing sand toys. Sometimes it's hard to know who is with who....

I know it is common for random kids to play with one another but I would think the parents would want to be aware of where the other child's (especially a 2yr old's) parents or guardians were and make sure and that they knew where and who their child was with.

I was at the beach a few weeks ago with my nephews and they were playing with some other kids. After about 10 minutes, I asked the kids where their parents were. I wanted to make sure that they were nearby and also keeping an eye on their kids. Maybe I just a little overprotective.

Have you been to the beach lately LOL I play lifeguard ALL the time. I am AMAZED at the lack of parenting so close to a dangerous body of water and strangers etc. I was a lifeguard btw and my first save a 3 year old jumped into the deep end at the Stony Brook Country Club. I tried to find her parents and they were in the picnic area! Not even near the pool!!! I mean lifeguards are babysitters I guess.
Chat Icon Chat Icon I am so tired of people letting their kids run all over the place. I went to the bayshore sprinker park yesterday where a little boy was taking things out of my sisters stroller for Id say 15 minutes before the mom came and got him. I could go on and on. When were at the beach my kids are never out of my sight... ever!

Oh and another time I was a lifeguard at a lake iin Cortland. A parent had the nerve to DROP OFF her 2 young children. One turned right around and tried to walk home by herself. Mom came back and couldnt find her so we assumed she may have drowned so we spent a while walking the lake holding hands with everyone before she was found on a road somewhere!!! People make me sick. Re: LI Day Care abandons 2 year old at beach

I have never heard of a daycare taking a child this young on a field trip without parents being with them.
Not sure why the mother would let her child go on this trip so young.

Someone brought up a very good point I never thought of. She must of been in a car seat. So how could no one notice that her car seat was empty. I just don't get it! Where they driving these kids around without car seats? Where they packed into a minivan?
The whole situation is just crazy!! I just don't understand it.

That is so sick.

Police had the kid at 3:30, she was playing with a family for an hour before that....... so at least 4 hours that the kid was unaccounted for from daycare.....

Our prior daycare offered a trip to the circus...... for 2 year olds! We declined it because I didn't trust them watching so many young kids.

Re: LI Day Care abandons 2 year old at beach

We are in NJ this week with my SIL.

This story was on my mind when we took DS to the aquarium. This is Adventure Aquarium. It's pretty big.... Different floors and exhibits. Plus it's dark in most places.

Sure enough.... There was a huge group of 2 year olds with maybe 3 staff members. Several times, other moms.... Strangers.... We're bringing these babies by the hands back to the group saying "Excuse me..... Is he with you????"

These kids were wandering. Everywhere.

And they were even brought into the gift shop. Running amuck. That gift shop is so big and chaotic, I lost track of my 5 year old several times!!!!Chat Icon

That's insane! Why would any parent allow such a young child to go on field trip. I think it can be overwhelming to take ONE child out even with two parents. I don't understand people's judgement.
