LI half marathon girls - HELP!!

I have a second bout of tonsillitis brought on by strep in 2 months! I lost out on the training time in Feb - but was able to make it up...no there is only 2.5 weeks left!

Yesterday I went in for steroids and it was the first time I even thought about working out since Wednesday (last week).

So what do I do to get those 6 days back? I have a 4 mile race Sunday - which I feel OK to do - how hard do I do it? I'll have to add miles on later (which might be better to split it up) and then there is only one sunday left!

can I get back to my old speed by 5/3?

Re: LI half marathon girls - HELP!!

I took off 4 days 2 weeks ago due to a minor injury. I still managed to run my long run that week so I didnt have to make it up.
How long are your long runs??

I missed my 10/11 miles run this weekend :(

today I'm going to try to get 3 miles in...slowly, if I have to, but I all of my workouts are over 4 miles now. I guess I'll see how that goes.

Re: LI half marathon girls - HELP!!

see how you feel today and the rest of the week. See if you can run 11 miles on your long run. and then maybe taper off with a 9 miler next week.

You don't want to injur yourself so take it slow and see how you feel. A couple of days of running can be all you need.

I think you can definetly do it, if your body is up for it.

See how your training goes this week.

Good Luck! I know this sucks, but don't give up.

Erica it is so ironic that you posted this! I thought for a couple of days you perhaps forgot to sync but I was just going to message you today to make sure you were okay!!! Chat Icon

Here's my two cents. You are a running machine. One week of illness isn't going to take away all the hard work and training you've put into this. I wouldn't try to make up the mileage. That week is gone and you needed it to recover.Chat Icon

That being said, if it was me, I honestly wouldn't push it at the race unless you are feeling 100% at that point. Depending on how bad you are feeling perhaps you'll want to consider stepping down to the novice training for the remaining two weeks? The last week is basically easy anyway to gear up for the 1/2. Just take it day by day and see how you feel and try and keep up with the rest of the schedule as closely as possible.

I know it probably FEELS like it's going to be rough, but knowing you after a day or two you will pick up right where you left off.

Good luck and feel better Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

just thought I would put a FYI in...I just read in RW that detraining doesn't happen until 2 weeks! good to know that one week out doesn't set you back too much.

I ended up doing a race on sunday and was only 8 seconds slower than I was in the beginning of APril (same course)
