LI IVF Girls - Question about IVF
I am in the 2WW after my first IUI. If this doesn't work, we are moving straight to IVF. I asked the nurse this AM (went in for a progesterone check) what exactly happens if I get AF and move onto my next cycle. She said I would take the orientation class (there's one offered on the 16th) and then probably start BC. However, she made it seem like I had to wait it out a whole other cycle before moving onto IVF. Is this the case? Or can we move straight onto IVF?

Re: LI IVF Girls - Question about IVF
You have to wait another cycle no matter where you go, so they can time everything correctly and know exactly where you are in your cycle. You start BCP after you get AF.

I guess I was confused.
I know I'll have to wait a cycle out to take the BC, but can I start the birth control if I get AF next week and be on the road to IVF. Does that make sense? Or do I have to a natural cycle without BC bf that?

Re: LI IVF Girls - Question about IVF
I don't know how LI IVF works, but December was my last IUI cycle, and we were forced by the doctor to take a month off before moving to an IVF cycle, when I got my period after the failed IVF, I started right away on BCP. Because I don't ovulate on my own and have VERY long cycles, I was actually given a choice to go right on BCP or wait it out and do a round of Provera prior to the start of my cycle. I opted for the BCP. I started BCP on January 3rd, but I didn't start my IVF cycle until February 18th

Re: LI IVF Girls - Question about IVF
From my understanding, LI-IVF does IVF in cycles, meaning they'll only cycle X number of people at once. I had the dr and one nurse telling me we could start in June and then a different nurse telling me it wouldn't be until the next month (July) because they're already full in the # of ppl cycling already this round. They said they try to set everyone up so they're all doing transfers and retrievals within a certain time frame and then after that they close down the embryology lab for a couple of days to restock all of their supplies and get new medical equipment if needed. HTH!
ETA: I still haven't gotten AF since April 15th- which was the start date of my cycle for my last IUI at my previous dr. (which got cancelled). They told me since I don't get AF on my own that I'll be taking provera once all of my labs are done (except the CD3 ones)- then in 2 weeks or so when AF arrives I'll start on BCPs... My point is that I am not going to have to wait a 'natural cycle' in between... so hopefully you won't either.

Re: LI IVF Girls - Question about IVF
Thanks for the info, ladies. I am just PRAYING that if I need IVF, that we can get started sooner rather than later. I am a teacher, and have the summer off, and would LOVE to go through that whole process over the summer when I am not working.
Should I speak to someone about setting up a time frame for IVF? Or should I wait out the results of this IUI? I am due for AF NEXT Sunday I just want to be on top of things as to not waste time.

Thanks for this post b/c I've been wondering the same thing. I am hoping that if we do need to move in this direction that it can happen over the summer.

Re: LI IVF Girls - Question about IVF
I am right there with the rest of you. My AF is due in the next few days and I am hoping to start IVF right after June's AF shows up. I plan on speaking with Dr. B next week when he is back in the office. I don't want to get closed out of July's IVF schedule.

Re: LI IVF Girls - Question about IVF
It may seem like you are waiting a whole other cycle b/c you will need to be on BCP's for about 3 weeks. Then you wait a couple of days and start your stims. Some women get another bleed between stopping the BCP's and starting the stims so it's almost like one cycle before you oficially start with the IVF stims. Does that make sense??
I do have to say, after my m/c, the nurse was very pro active in helping me to start a new cycle asap. I was the one who wanted to wait but she really kept on top of me to find out how I was doing and reconfirm things.

Re: LI IVF Girls - Question about IVF
From what they told me its not a close out of numbers its the end of a series. This is series 110 and its winding down. Series 111 will start in July. They are not adding new people to 110 at this point just working through the people on BCPs, stims etc. I don't think they have a cap per se on the number of people that start with a series. They told me the start of 110 was particularly crazy b/c so many people had been on hold with the new lab situation.

Thank you!!! I knew they never put a cap on the number of cycles they do at once, but didn't want to say anything lest they had changed procedure.

Thanks for clarifying- the nurse made it seem to me that they only had X # of people go thru it at once. I was trying to figure out what the series line meant in all of the booklets they gave us. I wonder why they already are telling me it might be an extra month---- if it's not done by the # of people. One nurse is telling me I'll get provera on monday and then start on BCPs once AF comes and one is telling me another month, because they're so busy with how many people are currently cycling... oh well, guess I'll figure it out next week- we're 'supposed' to meet with our nurse on Monday (b/c there's only 1 in the port jeff office according to the person who picked up the phone). No one ever called me to tell me if this is definite or not, but we're going in for bloodwork so we'll have to see how it works out. Thanks again for the clarification!

My guess is that it has to do with Dr. Brenner being out for a few weeks and the fact that they aren't going to start anyone right now because they won't be able to do the retrieval before this series is over. If they wait a few weeks they will be able to put you into the next series.
