LI Wineries
DH, some friends, and I are planning on going to a few wineries on LI this weekend as a low-key way to celebrate my birthday. I've never been to any of the wineries. Does anyone have any suggestions on which ones to go to? TIA.

Re: LI Wineries
Yes! We go all the time! LOL!
Here are some we love for the wine and the ambience:
Raphael...LOVE! Wish I'd looked at it for our wedding The Old Field (tiny...but nice wine...they make an interesting sparkling white) Castello di Borghese Lieb I don't like Pindar at all...it's full of people trying to get drunk off tiny sips of wine...LOL...and the tastings are free so you tend to get more people interested in drinking than to learn about wine....just my opinion) Macari

Re: LI Wineries
do you want a huge bustling place or a quiet relaxing tasting atmosphere?
huge places that bring in limos and busloads of people
pindar raphael ospreys dominion Martha Clara Pelligrini Gallucio
places that are quiet but great wines
Roanoke Shinn Estate Old Field Vineyard 48 Corey Creek
I prefer the quiet places
My 2 favorites are Roanoke and Shinn with the best wines
Bedell honorable mention for great wines

Re: LI Wineries
What do you do at a vineyard? Do youjust show up, or do they have specific tour times?

You can do a tour, or you can show up with your friends, bring some food, and sit outside (some have decks and live music) and enjoy!

There is a magazine called The Wine Press full of info; perhaps google it. Or try www.liwines.com.

Re: LI Wineries
I went with DH for Valentines day. We went to a bunch that were within walking distance of eachother.
Lieb Pindar Bedell Raphael
IMO, Rapael was very nice, but I wasn't a big fan of their wine. DH really loved one of them. I really liked Lieb wine (although the place is not fancy at all), and we both loved Bedell. They had some really great wines. We spent the most time there because we also went on the tour. Pindar was OK. Nice to go to, but not to spend too much time there.
I wanted to go to Corey Creek, but then the snow storm came and they didn't open.

I love Micari and Palmer Vineyards. Martha Clara is also on the same street and they have live music much of the time. Micari has the best wine IMO. If it's your first time though, I would be sure to hit all of them along 25 first. Bedell Cellars is good and Raphael is beautiful.

Just so you know Pindar started charging for their tastings now...I was there back in the winter time and I was surprised, but they said that they were using so much wine they had to start charging. Its one of my faves....and i LOVE Bedell as well!
