Re: Life insurance policy on your dc

Right now I only have about $10k in term that's an automatic on one of mine & Dh's policies -

I'm going to look into getting him a substantial whole life policy while he is still so young b/c the premiums are pennies -

Maybe this is a dumb question - but why would you need life insurance for a child?

Because sometimes, the unthinkable unfortunately happens Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Also, some people get whole life with a return option and it's like a savings for the child when they get to the end of the term.

I purchased it for IF the god forbid something ever happened to DSChat Icon , it would cover the expenses. I don’t have that amount of money is savings and honestly couldn’t fathom putting that on a credit card and making that monthly payment

I am not getting a policy on DD because of the "what if" factor. I am getting this because one day her term life policy will run out (when her kids are grown and mortgage is paid off) and she will have this whole life policy to rely on.

Re: Life insurance policy on your dc

An interesting thing to consider...

An insurance guy told me that he took out policies for his triplets immediately after they were born. One of the three is autistic and won't be able to qualify for another policy on his own (ever). Because the policy was taken out before he was diagnosed, he will have it for life.

I, personally, wish I had done this as soon as the boys were born. Hunter may have trouble getting life insurance later in life because of the surgery that he had back in December. Chat Icon

Re: Life insurance policy on your dc

we have one through gerber. it's a 25k whole life insurance policy. i dont know what it costs because DH handled it, but i remember it was very little.

we have it because i think it has some sort of savings value that they can use when they are older. they will have it for themselves and for their family when they are older. whole life insurance is good to have, and gets expensive when you are older. i have a term insurance for myself and dh for the kids.

i didn't get it because of the worst case scenario with them. i wouldnt need anything moneywise. my heart would be shattered and it wouldnt help at all.

IDK if they dont, I think its just a rated, which is applicable to anyone appling for life insurance for having high cholestrol, overweight, etc.

Not necessarily....again, it just might be rated. Most likely, it wouldnt even be looked at esp if he applies for it as an adult.

But for everyone KEEP in mind, its life insurance and any medical conditions can be a risk that most companies dont want to take on.

Because if later in life they are diagnosed with a disease, such as diabetes, they will never be able to get life insurance. It's happened to friends of ours - the only policy he has is the one his parents took out for him when he was born.

Wow, I never thought of this! I was going to hold off a few more months to get the whole policy but I guess the sooner the better! I just have 10k through work right now.
