Light weight stroller: Maclaren Quest Sport OR City Mini?
Ok so I NEED something more lightweight now that Matthew is getting bigger (15m). I have the Baby Jogger City Select, which I LOVE. However, my mom has a bad back and is with him multiple times a week and I want something for quick trips/mall/weekend trips. I am in between the Maclaren Quest Sport and the City Mini. I couldn't figure out how to fold the Maclaren (I must be retarded) in the store. The City mini folded in a second. The City Mini is 5lbs heavier (doesn't feel heavy though) but seems to be more comfortable/reclines all the way/etc. Do I go for the TRUE umbrella stroller or do the middle ground with the City Mini? I have been going nuts for months trying to decide. Please help! I'd like to make the City Select my backup stroller until we have DC #2 (it converts to a 2). TIA

I am in the same predicament. We actually have the quest sport and I was thinking of exchanging it for the city mini. I also have the city select and want something for quick trips. The 2012 city mini is coming out and it's supposed to have a better basket. I'd love to see the responses so I can make a decision too.

Re: Light weight stroller: Maclaren Quest Sport OR City Mini?
I have a Maclaren and I loved it when I used it all the time. The pro's are it's easy to fold (lol, you hit the middle part in the back and then there's a lever on the side... or maybe the lever first and then the middle part and then it folds in half. I'm using a double now so I forget.), and it's really light.
The cons are that if you hang your bag on the straps and your child gets up the stroller falls over because it's REALLY lightweight. Also, you can't access the basket underneath if the seat is reclined. Big PITA.
I don't have the City Mini but I loooove it... Great handling, super easy to fold as you know... but it's heavier (I feel like that's the sort of thing you notice more over time) and probably more expensive. And I think that you have to buy the rain cover separately.. I know that was the case with the City Mini double but I could be wrong about the single.

If you are looking for a true lightweight stroller, something quick & easy to use. . .go with the maclaren, it makes the most sense.

Re: Light weight stroller: Maclaren Quest Sport OR City Mini?
I have the city mini and I wanted to get the Maclaren Volo for a true lightweight stroller. Something for quick trips to the store or whatever.
Thing is, I LOVE my city mini. When we do go shopping, I can hang alllll my bags on it (I have a mommy clip plus the hooks they sell at BBB). If stuff is too heavy, I load up the basket underneath. I have trouble imagining going to the store with the volo and then having to physically carry the bags myself. No thanks Especially now in the winter, I throw off my and DS' jacket and put it on the city mini. Steers amazingly well, if DS gets out the stroller doesn't tip even with the baby bag and shopping bags on it (so long as they're not all 20+ lb bags!).
I'd HIGHLY recommend the city mini.
Now, tell me how you like the city select please! I am considering it as my double stroller for when the new baby comes. I hate the price, but it looks great and we loved it when we tested it in the store. Just want some real life experience.

I have the Uppababy GLuxe and I love it! It is super lightweight, and it is very comfortable. The seat reclines all the way, and the foot rest moves. It is a very smooth ride, and has an awesome sun shade.
The cons are that the basket is small, and hard to access if the seat is reclined, and you need two hands to fold (but it is super easy to fold).

I would never take my umbrella stroller shopping. I use it for travel and for things that don't involve a lot of packages. If I were going shopping I would bring my full size stroller.

I asked and they said there is a slight chance of January which I am hoping for. After reading some of these reviews I am leaning towards returning my Quest Sport and and getting the City Mini. Thanks for posting this question!!

Re: Light weight stroller: Maclaren Quest Sport OR City Mini?
Ok so I LOVE my city select! I think it is well worth the price tag. I only have 1 DC now, so I can only review it as a single stroller. I used it as a bassinet when DC was really tiny for nice walks around the neigborhood or when we were going somewhere for extended periods of time. I also used it as a snap and go (eliminates the need for one and it looks WAY nicer). As a stroller, it reclines all the way. It also has the option to have DC face toward you or out to see the world. The handles are height adjustable. The basket underneath is HUGE and the main reason why I haven't gone lightweight sooner. When DC was younger, I was able to do FULL food shopping runs with it. I got so much in that basket.... I swear that thing is bottomless. The select was my FAVORITE registry items and I have gotten so much use out of it. The only disadvantage is it is a little heavy and you have to take off the seat to fold and put in your car. This was a non issue for me though. Now that DS is a little older, I just was something more convenient (more for my mom). I have no doubt I will be using the Select again nonstop when I have a second DC. There are so many different seating options with this stroller and the second seat is a full seat (Uppa Vista is not- not sure about this years version though). Oh and the sun canopy is awesome!
Ok so I am really looking for something for the mall that is lighter and easy in and out of the car as well as for my mom's bad back. I am thinking the extra 5lbs is nothing because it folds so easily. The mini might be the better option. I use the basket and the mommy handles A LOT so this is a huge pro. I guess my battle is that it isn't much different than the select (except weight). I might get over that quick though lol!

I love my Maclaren Quest Sport. It is so easy to open and lightweight! Only drawback is the basket which is very hard to access.

Me too.
I also don't like the sunshade but, I got one to put on top of it.
I only have a Snap N Go and a Maclaren and I've been happy with my decision. I am getting a City Mini Double though for DC #2. I figure I will mainly use that for walks and such.

Re: Light weight stroller: Maclaren Quest Sport OR City Mini?
I bought the citi mini because I could NOT figure out how to close the Maclaren (even after being shown).
SIL confirmed my fears, telling me HER mother leaves the Maclaren open because she has a tough time folding it.
My SIL has the Maclaren (but maybe an older version than the new one)... so I've compared the both of them. I prefer the citi mini (and she does too).
The citi mini is truly easy to maneuver. I've taken it over grass, cobblestones, in the park, in Manhattan, in & out of doors, etc.
The sun shade is the best I've seen on any stroller. DS is a diva and cries when sun gets in his eyes... so it was important.
It is light weight enough: I have no problem getting it in & out of my car even at 9 months preggo. The stroller is lighter than my kid.
The main negative about the citi mini is the fact that it doesn't sit up totally. This does not bother some children, but my diva wants to sit BOLT upright and pulls himself forward on the side of the stroller. There is a way to "flip" out the seat: you pull the seat through the canopy part & stuff a sweater in the gap: easier to show than to explain

The city mini is much easier to fold. The Maclaren is lighter.
I researched strollers to death and started with a bulky orbit, then city mini, then maclaren... Now my favorite stroller is the super light $20 cheapo babies r us one. That is the only true umbrella stroller we have. The others are light but still around 20 pounds or so.

My Maclaren Quest Sport broke (i.e. got ran over accidentally). I got a Mammas and Pappas Cruise Buggy on clearance and it ROCKS! I love it so much more than my Maclaren...the small differences mean so much to me.

Re: Light weight stroller: Maclaren Quest Sport OR City Mini?
I have the City Mini and the Maclaren Techno.
I don't like my Maclaren at all. I hate pushing an umbrella stroller with two separate handles. I'm much more comfortable pushing a stroller with a bar-type handle. Plus, the Maclaren falls over all the time if I'm out shopping and hang bags on the handles (when I take DS out of the stroller. -Maclaren does not recommend hanging bags from the handles btw.)
I love my city mini, but don't really use it anymore since my DS can't sit up straight, which he hates. It was fine when he was a baby, but by 18mos, he wasn't too happy. I loved the city mini though; it maneuvered great, folded in a cinch, and was a breeze to push.
When the time comes and I need to get a double, I'm heading straight for the city mini and then comparing all other strollers to that one.

What do you use now since DS doesn't like the City Mini? Do you have the 2011 that is supposed to sit up straighter?
