Lighting over dining table - ADDED a few layout pics at bottom
I have to pick out lighting for over my dining room table & we decided with the way the table aligns with out window, we are going with 2 fixtures... one of which would be centered with the window, one not.
Anyone have or seen this done? 2 Smaller chandeliers & fixtures?
Any suggestions? I prefer something with multiple lights (as opposed to pendant lights)
ETA: I'll add a pic to you can see what the room looks like. We haven't bought rugs, put up moulding or curtains yet obviously..
Other angle to give feel of the room.. The Living room is next to the DR. There with be a sofa/loveseat to the left & right of the radiators
please disregard our sad christmas decor.. since we don't have a couch to sit on, we didn't put much out this year

Thanks! Tiffany style is pretty, but I'm thinking of something more like this.. Do you think this would go? Would 2 fixtures look weird?

Re: Lighting over dining table - suggestions?
Does the table open? Otherwise you could prob just do one. If it opens I say do two if they are not too large.
They are both quite pretty.

The table does open, I currently have 1 leaf in & I have another leaf also. This set will not be permanent, so the next table may be bigger (definitely not smaller)..
The reason I was thinking 2, is the one that would be on the left would line up with the center of the front window as well as the light in the living room. If I only do 1, it would be off and was thinking that would be more weird.. Make sense?

Re: Lighting over dining table - suggestions?
I guess i don't see the need to do 2 lights - if you just do one that is a little wider, (rather than rounder) that you centered over the table it should look fine.
you can't have everything in the room lined up perfectly
how about something like these? i realize it might not be your style, but just to show the type i was referring to
eta: i also don't think the space you have is big enough to be able to handle two lights there.. it would look crowded imo

I like that idea. I couldn't picture it with two fixtures up there unless they were very small and widely spaced- like one at one end of the table and one at the other end. Maybe something like these:

i don't think 2 lights would look right.... what about centering it with the window and then doing like a longer chain swopping thing so the light goes over the table
that doesn't sound right i'll try to find a pic
something like this

I see what you mean, that is pretty!
Just so everyone doesn't think I'm nuts, this is what I was thinking of, but not sure if it would work for me if my room isnt as big (and gorgeous) as these:

i'm not sure what you mean when you say two fixtures. do you mean you want two chandeliers?
i say a single chandelier centered over the table would look best. i would not worry about the window being off.

ok, i understand what you mean now with the two fixtures.
i love those pictures! but i don't know if it would work out as well in your space. your ceilings look lower and you have the window and the hutch. i think it would be too much going on. if you look at those pictures the rooms are open and there is nothing distracting around those tables (no windows that look so close (yours looks closer to the table) or other furniture).
if it were me i'd go with the single light.

Re: Lighting over dining table - suggestions?
I think you ladies are right, I think we should go with 1 larger rather than 2 smaller chandeliers. Being off from the window was throwing me off.. I'm a little OCD when things like that are off, but we can make the hole in the middle & then swag it to be over the middle of the table.
Thanks for your help everyone!

lampsplus.com, some of them were under 'island chandeliers' (as in going over a kitchen island)

You know what I think is throwing me about the two lighting fixtures, the china cabinet against the wall. If you have another spot to put that, I think I could see the two fixtures at each end of the table.

Re: Lighting over dining table - suggestions?
I don't mean to offend but something seems off with the room designations. Where is the kitchen located? I would swap the DR and LR. From the pics, it appears that there is plenty of room in the LR for the DR table and the hutch as well as the ability to center a fixture over the table.

No offense taken, You are actually right!
The kitchen is in the front. This is the view from the kitchen (the tree is in the middle of nowhere since we don't have LR furniture yet..)
from the other way, looking at kitchen & stairs
The back room (the living room) was the original master bedroom & there was no dining room. We took down the wall between that bedroom and the original LR to make it 1 big space. Here is before we took the wall down, during & after
The reason we put the dining room where it is, is because with the kitchen being in the front it seemed weird to have the DR in the back. We will also redoing that kitchen (its 55 yrs old) when we save enough..

Re: Lighting over dining table - ADDED a few layout pics at bottom
Wow what a difference - I think its going to look great. I would still consider swapping the LR & DR. Not just for the light fixture but for ease of living.
It looks like you have an EIK. So I would think most of your meals would be eaten in the kitchen and the DR would be a special occasion eating space. Its very convenient to have a LR off the kitchen especially if you have children that will be playing in there. You can keep on eye on them while prepping, cooking, cleaning up. If you do not have a EIK or have a separate family/playroom then I would leave things as they are.

Thank you ladies! We actually were going to have the rooms reversed originally, but we will hopefully re-do the kitchen this year and it will most likely not be an EIK, probably just have an island with seating & then we'd have the dining room right there.
We also plan to add a door in the living room on the back wall to go out to the back yard, which was another positive to having that be the LR
