LIJ Jewish Medical Center or LIJ North Shore?
Hi, this is my first pregnancy, and I'd love your ladies' opinions on a hospital. I am switching hospitals at 28 weeks to one closer to me now that I live in Douglaston rather than Manhattan.
I did a maternity tour of both LIJ Jewish Medical Center (New Hyde Park) and LIJ North Shore (Manhasset). Both hospitals are nice, but the LIJ Jewish Medical Center facilities do seem nicer and more "hotel-like," and all the delivery rooms have private showers and/or bath tubs, which only a minority of North Shore delivery rooms do. I'm not sure if I will really use it, but my birthing class teacher says a hot bath or shower is relaxing during labor.
I have a highly recommended doctor referral at both hospitals, although the LIJ Jewish Medical Center one is known to have very long wait times like couple hours. I believe she is a solo practitioner while the North Shore doctor has a two physician practice (both docs are supposed to be good).
I am leaning toward the North Shore doctor, but like the other hospital better. The North Shore hospital though did a very thorough 2 hour maternity tour vs. only a half hour at Jewish Medical. I know North Shore is supposed to be a "nicer" area, although I'm not sure that should play a factor really.
Can you ladies who have delivered at one or both places please weigh in?
I have to decide very soon.
Thank you very much!

I should note that both hospitals are about 10 minutes away from me.

If it makes a difference, the doctors I am considering are Dr. Richard Trongone and his partner, and Dr. Carmen J. Rodrigues

LIJ Jewish Medical Center or LIJ North Shore?
I think both are great hospitals. I delivered twice at NS Manhasset. The first time was in 2009. at that time the rooms were not private unless you paid to have a private room. The experience overall at that time was still good. I delivered my son in July of 2014. all the rooms now are private with a private shower. Nurses were kind and helpful. my son came two months early so I was also dealing with the Nicu staff. They were wonderful as well. My doctors deliver at Manhasset and I love them. I do believe two of doctors in the practice have rights at LIJ. The Area where LIJ is not a bad area at all. Since both hospitals are great I would deicide on which doctor I wanted to use.

Re: LIJ Jewish Medical Center or LIJ North Shore?
I delivered at NS Manhasset with Dr. Trongone.
Re: Dr. Trongone - he is the best doctor I've ever had, and his partner Dr. Petrocelli (sp?) is equally amazing .I had the best experience with them. Dr. T was amazing before labor and during and after. Dr. T only delivers at Manhasset from what I remember unless thats changed in the last few months.
Re: NS Manhasset - I had a great experience there. I honestly don't remember getting up once I went into full on labor (I was 6cm when I got to hospital) - but the room was private and comfortable. The actual room we got moved into after baby was here was actually really great, was private, large. had pull out couch for DH, a nice bathroom, etc. The hospital food wasn't bad either at all. Everyone was super nice and I'd recommend it in a heart beat.

Pick the Dr not the hospital. They are both perfectly fine hospitals. You will be spending way more time with the Dr than actually in the hosptial

I delivered at NS Manhasset 2 weeks ago and I have nothing but good things to say. The rooms are very nice and big. The staff was great and very accommodating. You can't go wrong with either hospital. Gl

I agree with PP, pick the doctor not the hospital. Both are exceptional. I delivered at North Shore and will again in May. I have friends who delivered at both and no complaints on either.

Re: LIJ Jewish Medical Center or LIJ North Shore?
I delivered in LIJ and had a wonderful experience. Staff was super attentive and I had a pretty intense labor. The rooms were constantly cleaned and everything private. I loved my nurse Sara who felt like a friend by the end of my stay. Edited to say I know people who work at north shore and asked this same question and they recommended LIJ.

LIJ Jewish Medical Center or LIJ North Shore?
I just delivered DS at North Shore on Friday and could not have been happier. My doctor was amazing, as were all the nurses that I came in contact with. Everyone there took wonderful care of my son and me. My room was private and had a huge bathroom (my brother asked if he could just move in there lol).

Thank you so much ladies for your great opinions and info! I think I will go with Dr. Trongone at North Shore. I've heard and read a lot of great things about him and his partner.

Thank you! Curious, did your contacts at North Shore say why?

LIJ Jewish Medical Center or LIJ North Shore?
I've delivered at both in the past and will again this summer. I prefer the rooms at LIJ. The nurse in the operating room was great and one of the postpartum ones was good. The recovery (post op) nurse was rude (like she didn't want to be there). Most of the NICU nurses were good.
NSUH was prior to the renovations but I did like the nurses and the food was 10xs better over LIJ.

I can't speak to the hospitals but have to concur that Dr. Trongone and Dr. Petrocelli are awesome.
They are very calming, reassuring, friendly and professional. Their office staff is equally as great. Wait times not bad (Only had to wait for the NT Scan which is done in office), they have late hours 2 days a week, and are always available to answer questions / ease concerns.
I personally would go with a doctor over the hospital - especially since NSUH and NSLIJ are both top notch hospitals. The care you receive should be equal all things considering. Plus you see the doctor multiple times over your pregnancy whereas, your hospital stay is only a few days. Also, I personally would be wary about using a solo practioncer. What happens if she is not on call or is on vacation? As I understand Dr. T and Dr. P are a small practice and 'rotate.' You are pretty much gauranteed to get one of them the day of delivery, unless there is a very extenuating circumstance.

ITA. I go to Dr. Trongone and also love him. I had DD1 with a different doctor at LIJ and hated the hospital, but it was pre-renovation. I found everything about NS to be better.
