Lindenhurst and W.Babylon?

Hi, everyone. My DH and I are in the very, very, very, early stages of looking at houses. We are thinking of moving out of state but want to just see whats out there before we jump ship. Anyway we are both from Queens so know zero about Suffolk county. A real estate agent is sending us info on houses in Lindenhurst and W. Babylon. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I am very concerned about School District since I am pregnant and a teacher. Thank you so much fo any info. since I am so lost in this whole process.

I think both are very nice towns. West Babylon schools have a good reputation. My sister had her first house in W.B. and I have a lot of friends who live there. I haven't heard anything bad about Lindenhurst S.D., but the few people I know that live there send their kids to OLPH Catholic school. Just be careful that any house you look at is in Lindenhurst S.D. and not Copiague.

I always thought Lindenhurst was a very under-rated town. I love that there is a central shopping area and some of the older colonial homes are just beautiful. The area south of Montauk Highway by Venetian Shores is becomming very popular too.

I grew up in WB and my parents still live there. There are some really nice areas of WB but there are also so not-so-nice areas. I like the area by the high school along Arnold ave. As for the SD, when I was in school I felt that it was not a very good district-although I did have a few excellent teachers (we're talking the early 90's though). I met another WB graduate during pre-cana and her husband had just finished student teaching and he said it got worse. So, I think you'll get mixed reviews about the district. As for Lindy (I don't really know the SD) there are again really nice areas and not-so-nice areas. IMO it's nicest in the village area.

Lindenhurst schools are pretty good. There are a lot of young families moving in, so I think they are on the upward movement instead of downhill.

My aunt sent my cousin to O.L.P.H. for kindergarten and pulled her out to go to the public school. THey hated it.

Re: Lindenhurst and W.Babylon?

We bought in Lindenhurst Village almost a year ago. We love the village, our neighborhood, the proximity to beaches and parks. I'm happy with the reports the schools get (we don't have kids yet). I anticipate the schools staying as nice as they are or even improving as there are many younger couples and young families moving in.

We also liked West Babylon and looked there and would have bought there with as much confidence as we had in Lindenhurst.

Feel free to FM if you have any other questions.

There are TONS of open houses on the weekends in my neighborhood which is Meridale Park, just west of Wellwood between the train and Montauk Hwy.

Re: Lindenhurst and W.Babylon?

I grew up in W. Babylon as well and my parents also still live there. There are good and bad parts of both towns (Lindy and WB). But you'll find that with a lot of towns in Suffolk.

When looking for homes, consider the school districts. Some homes in Lindenhurst are actually in the Copaigue SD. And some homes in West Babylon are in the Wyandanch or N. Babylon School district.

I know a lot of young couples who have bought in the West Babylon area. DH and I don't plan on looking for a home for another couple years, but we'd definitely consider looking in West Babylon, especially because of the proximity to where we work (Melville).

Thank you all so much for your input. I really appreciate it. I will defintely still look in those areas since it sounds like overall good towns to raise a family in.

Re: Lindenhurst and W.Babylon?

We moved to Lindy (the village) back in December and I for one LOVE the town. People are friendly and the shopping is great. The schools look good, the elementary school that my kids will go to is the Allegany school and the JHS is right on Wellwood. The library is nice and has alot of programs. It just seems like a nice town.

Re: Lindenhurst and W.Babylon?

We just closed on our first home in West Babylon.

My DH and his family have all lived here their entire lives.

We picked WB based on the reputuation and the affordability.

I would have loved to stay in West Islip, but that was out of the question.

We got a lot of house for a decent price.

We are in the Numbered Streets section that is West Babylon town and schools, but East Farmingdale Fire District Between Straight Path and Wellwood Ave.

Anything south of the Southern State is good. Once you go North of the southern state you are in Wyandanch and I would stay away from there.

I actually am very happy where we purchased this house. Our block is beautiful. All of the houses are pretty much well maintained and there are nice side walks.

I know there are also a bunch of houses in the area that just went on the market.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to FM me!

I agree with this statement. Anything north of S.S. is Wyandanch, although they like to list it as W.Bab. b/c they'll get more money for it. W.B. has much better schools.
