Lingering pet smell

We moved into our house last November. Previous owner had a dog. We ripped up all the rugs, re-did the hardwood floors, painted everything, scrubbed everything from top to bottom, power washed outside, etc. We got new a/c units and appliances, pulled out the kitchen cabinets to clean underneath, and re-floored in there.

Now that the weather is getting warmer, I smell dog in the house. Any thoughts on anything we missed cleaning or how to rid the house of the smell? It's especially bad in the entryway of the front door.

Unless you replaced everything - all trim even you probably can't get rid of it. We basically gutted our house except for a few closets and exterior doors.....we still get cigarette smoke smell on humid days. The house never smelled like smoke even when we looked at it but its jsut those summer days that I smell it.

Hmm -- did you replace the filters for the vents? Like, you know how houses with CAC have those filters in each of the ducts and vent holes?? Odors can get stuck in there and then when the air starts to flow it wafts the odor around.

Or if you have any kind of venting in a heating system also -- anything like that can hold odors. Also, when it gets humid sometimes odors from the past can linger. So, a dehumidifier may go a long way and help a lot.

Wash down the offending area with vinegar and water. The vinegar smell will dissipate and hopefully the dog smell too!
