Im thinking if its not back up and running by 3pm we are all in trouble. Construction crews let out at the time...let the crowd at Penn begin...

Wonderful, DH just recently took a job in Manhattan... he's not used to this... not a late-nighter either He's going to be THRILLED
And they want how much of an increase in ticket prices???
Give your DH my cell...if we opt for Port Washington, he can catch a ride with us. My mom may pick us up...although I'm pretty sure DH will opt for Tracks

And DH just said, "Call Barb, if anyone knows a way out, it's her.... she probably knows of a guy with a mule and a secret tunnel."
I just left you a VM.

Re: LIRR suspended.. any updates?
Nassau Bus is going to be a mess.
The best thing to do would be to take the Subway to Jamaica and have somebody pick you up.
Or take one of the Brooklyn Subways and be picked up in Brooklyn.
THANK GOD i took off work today. Wow. Although I have a feeling this is still going to be a mess tomorrow and i'll be driving in.

Re: LIRR suspended.. any updates?
I don't think they are running east out of Jamaica. I think the fire was east of the station. What a serious PAIN IN THE A*S

Re: LIRR suspended.. any updates?
No LIRR service out of Jamaica..Only service is from Penn St to Jamaica or Penn Sta to Port Washington.
I'm hitching a ride with my mom who works in LIC, and then having DH pick me up at my parents house in Queens...I just hope traffic on the SSP/Belt Parkway isn't crazy.

Re: LIRR suspended.. update!! they are running!!
New article
As of 3:20 p.m., Long Island Rail Road has resumed "very limited" service through Jamaica, but major delays are still expected. The limited service is being offered from Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal through Jamaica. No connecting service will be available at Jamaica.
Officials will be giving out more information at a news conference shortly.
LIRR suspended service earlier today in both directions on all lines except for the Port Washington line.
The service suspension was caused by a fire just before 11:00 a.m. in one of the major control towers just east of Jamaica.
New York City Transit honored LIRR fares between Jamaica and New York and Brooklyn during the disruption.
According to the LIRR, the 10 lines affected serve between 230,000 and 240,000 people daily.
"All of us having been sweating down here for like two hours, waiting for the train," said one LIRR passenger at Penn Station. "There's no answer. We go to the service desk, hang around, that's what they tell you, and they can honor the ticket for another day but they cannot return any money back."
"It's just ridiculous. They have problems in Jamaica, apparently, changing lines," said another. "I don't know what's going on but major problems, major delays."
It is not known at this time when the situation will be resolved.
