Re: LIRR Vent- Pregnant women Ignored!
I'm so glad you posted this - I thought it was just me! I'm 7 months pregnant and I think I've been offered a seat on the subway maybe 2 or 3 times. However, I find the LIRR to be the worst. I can't tell you how many times I've been knocked out of the way (by both men and women) to get a seat. I used to stay quiet. No I just yell at people. I don't even care anymore. The rudeness of certain people totally gets to me.

So nice of you! I am the same way and do that with anyone that looks disabled or is elderly. It's a shame there arent more people out there like you!

Good for you! I always do the same.
Although I have to say, as shocking as it was, when I was pregnant and taking the subway everyday someone almost always got up to offer me their seat. The other thing that came as a shock is that it was always men. Most women did the whole "I'm ignoring you, I don't see you" bit . Based on what I hear from most people, that surprised me.

Re: LIRR Vent- Pregnant women Ignored!
It amazes me how people don’t offer their seat up to pregnant women! I’m not pregnant; never have been; but hope to be soon. I ride the subway AND bus everyday! I know that when I’m 7+ months pregnant I’d appreciate a seat so I make sure to always give mine up! I usually read on the train or play a game; sometimes my head is down when we pull into stations and don’t always see pregnant women boarding. But there have been times when I look up after we pull out and notice someone with a baby belly standing. I’ll try to make eye contact and then signal for them if they want the seat. People sitting RIGHT in front of them aren’t even budging!
Crazy world! I know we’re all tired coming home; but come on!

As a former pregnant LIRR rider, I applaud you!
I had an instance once where a previous train was cancelled, so the train I normally took home was packed. Not one person offered me a seat. I even pulled my coat to the side to show off my nearly 9mo pregnant belly, hoping someone would get the hint. Same thing, heads buried deeper into their papers.

Re: LIRR Vent- Pregnant women Ignored!
I was in Cheesecake factory over a year ago. All of the seats for people waiting were taken. I was 6 months pregnant and I happened to be lucky and get a spot to wait. I saw this woman, clearly pregnant and bigger than I was at the time. I stood up and gave her my seat. She was 9 months pregnant with twins. No one else offered her a seat or offered ME a seat when I gave my seat to her. People suckkk.

Re: LIRR Vent- Pregnant women Ignored!
this makes me mad too. If the men on that train were gentleman and well raised, then they should be offering their seats before another woman does. Call me old fashioned. But I'd be mortified if I ever have a son that grows up and doesn't offer his seat to someone who is obviously pregnant.

Good for you!! I'm sure she'll remember how kind you are.
I still remember when I was pregnant with my DD, a woman standing on the subway near the doors leaned over and tapped the man sitting in front of me on the shoulder and asked (told) him to give me his seat. I will always appreciate what she did for me that day.. because I really wanted to slap the guy in the head but I wouldn't speak up.

GOOD FOR YOU. I did the same when I was commuting to NYC for grad school. Saw this SO often and it made me sick. Yes, I had just worked an 8 hour day and then gone into the city for 3 hours of grad school...but I know now that there is truly NO exhaustion on earth like pregnancy exhaustion.
Props to you for what you did, ESPECIALLY for being loud about it!!!

Re: LIRR Vent- Pregnant women Ignored!
i've been the pregnant person whom everyone ignores. so thank you!!
i've had people push me out of their way, one dude caused me to get my foot caught between the train door and platform on NJ transit one morning and tripped into the train and fell on my knee. I yelled to him that he was an ******* and he kept walking. and no one helped me up either. I wasnt very pregnant, but still.
