List of daycare questions??

I'll Xpost this to parenting, but does anyone have a list of questions to ask the daycare providers?

The ideal daycare from a geographic perspective has openings in October, which is when I will go back to work.

They can schedule a tour of the facility for me on Friday. But I don't exactly know what to ask.

I think I asked for a list a while back - I'll check my notebook... but I was speaking to a new mom who is very upset with her daycare provider because she thinks the baby is never handled or taken out of her seat - even for feedings... and she's only 2 mts old...

The daycare center I chose showed me they follow a schedule even for young babies (mine will be 8 weeks when she/he goes) - make sure they have some kind of stimulation time, as well as belly time... look to see if the babies are being held, talked to, attended to

also, if there are toddlers there, ask if they have been there since infancy - look to see if they are happy, I liked seeing that everytime the door opened and new people walked in, the little toddlers all came over curious and eager to meet new people - nice sign that everyone they have met so far has been a good experience

Check if they are accredited with NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) or if they have other accreditations. Find out (without blatanlty asking, b/c they'll say yes) if they are aware of child development, and work with developmental milestones. VERY important....

Will they let you drop by unannounced on your lunch break?

Ask about the turn over rate - every daycare center has a high turnover rate, but ask how many infant toddler teachers they have gone thru. some DC centers have the same teacher for years - thats a good sign...
