Listen to what my husband's company is doing
One of my husband's coworkers is in the reserves. He was recently deployed to Egypt and will be there for at least a year.
They're guaranteeing his job for when he returns.
But just today, they got his permanent address and made a policy that they will send care packages to him twice a month on the 15th and the 30th. Anyone who wants to add to the package can, but regardless, he will always be getting something.
Isn't that great? I'm thinking cranberry almond biscotti will travel well.
Edited to add:
Anyone know, besides baked goodies, what are good things to send a serviceman/woman that they can share with everyone?

That is wonderful. Kudos to your DH's company.
A coworker at my old company was sent to Afghanistan and then later Iraq. They guaranteed him his job and he was still paid (from what I heard). His reward was to have "Off to war again"" written in his performance review (which I personally saw) by a female partner for whom he did most of his work. He was later fired for no real reason.

We have given all of the above when sending care packages overseas for a group of service men/women to share in addition to the baked goods.

That's wonderful!
When my cousin was serving in Kuwait in the early 90s, we sent books, updated pictures of the family, we would send candy (no chocolate cause it was either melted or confiscated by military inspectors), and stupid hand held games that could add amusement to ones day.

Re: Listen to what my husband's company is doing
That's great. One piece of advice, is that you should send food or toiletries in each package, don't mix the two. Military packages can take a while, and also can not be treated the best (subject to heat etc), so best to keep the soap seperate from the food, otherwise you get some interesting tasting biscotti!
