Little girls bathing suits-- 2 questions

Did you wash them before DD wore them? I wash everything before she wears it, but these say hand wash only, and I'm honestly too lazy for that right now. I do have a front-load washing machine (therefore no agitator in there), so maybe I could wash them on gentle cycle?

Also, I'm clueless here...I bought the Pampers Swim Diapers (think that's what they're called). The bathing suits say they have a swim liner. I still need to use the Pampers Swim Diaper under the bathing suit, right? I don't just put the bathing suit on her with no diaper, like underwear, right? Chat Icon

I haven't washed the bathing suits before they wore them Chat Icon and after they've been worn, I handwash them.

And yes, I always put a swim diaper on underneath the bathing suit.

I was going to ask this exact question - can I add a question too -

I assume you only put the swim diaper on right before they go into the water than you take it right off?????? What do you all do when you spend the day at the pool - do you keep changing them or what?

I am going to hand wash Olivias new bathsuit. So many people touch them plus the fabric may irritate her if not washed.

Re: Little girls bathing suits-- 2 questions

I would wash the bathing suit first. But I even wash everything that touches my skin before I wear it, so the same definitely holds true for DC.

I'm a bit paranoid about clothes that sit in stores and warehouses and what kind of dirt and dust they touch and people's hands all over it before you get it home.

I think that washing it in the machine is fine. As for the Swim diapers- are they the same thing as Swimmers? I think with those, you just change them when you think they need to be changed. I don't think water gets in them.

I never washed a single thing before DD wore it, no problems, but that is just me. A bathing suit is no different in my mind since she will be wearing a swim diaper underneath anyway. It's not like us, with our bare skin touching the bathing suit.

I would definately wash it...just think of how many people may have touched it!! You could always just put some woolite in the sink and soak it.

Re: Little girls bathing suits-- 2 questions

Swim diapers do NOT hold urine, they are meant to hold in poop if that happens. So you really don't need to change them unless they poop.

It all comes out. They are non absorbent. If they put that gel stuff in them to absorb the urine, it would explode in the pool and those tiny crystals would be everywhere.

The only problem is once they come out of the pool and they are hanging around if they pee the diaper will not hold it in. So it is probably best to change them into a regular diaper again until they go back in the pool.

I washed all of her bathing suits before I put them on her body.... the same as I did with all of her clothing.

I didn't wash DD's prior to her wearing it. After swim class I hand wash her suit. I use a swim diaper under her suit just in case she goes. I'd hate for anything to float out and then the pool has to be closed. Chat Icon

Oh, ok. But the pee doesn't go in the pool if they pee while they're in there? Chat Icon

Yes it does - which is why people joke about the baby pools being warm from all the urine.

Thank you for the info - so I guess I will change her into a regular diaper when she comes out of the pools.
