Re: Living in NY - but not Long Island
We bought a house in Goshen, NY . This is Orange County and approximately sixty miles from the city. It is a beautiful town and you get a lot for your money, however there is absolutely nothing to do there. So if you are a homebody its a great area to live in.

I don't know how the taxes are....but Warwick is so cute
Warwick is a very nice town - but you would be surprised at the taxes up here in Orange County - not as low as one would think. [/QUOT
ITA, not LI taxes, however not low at all.

Re: Living in NY - but not Long Island
I live in Westchester and agree with all the previous posters that towns here have super high taxes.
You are better off with Rockland, Putnam, or Orange.
But some of the nicer areas in Westchester are
Bronxville, Rye, Rye Brook, Scarsdale, Tuckahoe, Harrison, Purchase, North Castle Pleasantville, Chappaqua, Armonk, Cortlandt Manor, Hastings on Hudson, Irvington, Dobbs Ferry, Ardsley, Hartsdale (has some nice parts), and White Plains (has nice parts and is close to the mall).
