Living on the top floor apartment

The people who live below us, an elderly couple stopped DH today and said that our floor squeeks and suggested that we have them come in and re-do our floor. I don't know if it's just me, but I think thats a little excessive to suggest to someone. The floor squeeks a little in the bedroom, but I had that in my parent's house too. Isn't that to be expected?

Could you get maintenance or the landlord to come in and just hammer down the loose boards?

I think it's a bit much for them to suggest you take on the expense of redoing the floors. Plus it's not your floor. I can't imagine it's that loud.

And you are right, hearing your neighbors is part of apartment living.

I dont think its something the maintance people can fix, my lady down stairs asked me to NOT wear my heels in the kitchen, because she hears me. So since Im not a fan of hers and her screaming at her DH ALL THE TIME I wear them any chance I get and walk harder. Im spiteful, so maybe not the best person to give advice.Chat Icon

Re: Living on the top floor apartment

they are being too picky. the people who live above us have a little kid who jumps around all day and all night and sounds like he is going to come crashing through the ceiling, but we don't say anything because we know its part of living in an apartment. There is nothing you can do about creaking floorboards, it means that some of them are probably bowing from damage and the floor would have to be replaced whichi s your landlord's responsibility, not yours.

Re: Living on the top floor apartment

We lived on the top floor and tried to be quiet as our landlords were elderly w/2 disabled sons.

They, on the other hand, BLASTED the TVs, and we heard them loud and clear. Not fun when you're trying to sleep. DH mentioned it, and it stopped for a while.

Then we bought a house. Chat Icon
