Living Space versus bedrooms
We're looking at a house - 4 bedrooms, plenty of storage, EIK, but the living room and dinig room are more on the small side - definitely liveable, but we have a huge extended family - so we always think about parties, although I'll probly only be hosting 2-3 times a year - so should we let that impact us? Anyone else think about this when buying?

Re: Living Space versus bedrooms
I absolutely thought of this when buying a home. I have a large family, and while I don't have any holidays here yet, I still have my family and our friends over quite often. We had seen houses with more and bigger bedrooms, but small livingrooms and diningrooms, however, we opted for 3 bedrooms, one being small, but with a nice sized diningroom and livingroom and den. It fits our needs more. We don't spend enough time in our bedrooms for it to be any other way.

Re: Living Space versus bedrooms
I thought about it a lot when purchasing our home. We have an open floor plan so although the dining room fits a table for 8-10 it can be extended into the living room to fit more people. We don't spend tons of time in our bedrooms so for me I would rather have the extra space in the LR/DR.

Re: Living Space versus bedrooms
We have 4 bedrooms. 2 very good size and 2 smaller one.
I have a VERY small LR and no DR. We have a EIK.
I would take living space anytime other bedroom space. We spend a lot more time in our living space than our bedrooms.

I always felt this way too. I sleep in my bedroom, nothing else... eh hem, sort of.
When we have company over we hang out in my kitchen and den. Those are the rooms that i want to be the bigger size.
